Here I am!

Hello world, yes tis me, pulled kicking and screaming into the world of blogging...at last! Why am I doing this after being sceptical for so long? Well, for one thing, someone else started a 'blog' called musingwithmarinamahathir which everyone thinks is me. And it's NOT! I don't mind it very much because as people keep telling me it's much more convenient to have all my columns on one site ( there goes my next book...:-( ). I just mind that Sambal Belacan never asked me if he/she could do this! I would have said yes probably.

Secondly, after seeing all the comments to 'Kak Marina', I thought I better respond in case they all think I'm so sombong or something. So...by default, here is my very own blog.

Now I don't promise that this will be earth-shaking stuff. I have no idea what I will write about at any given time. But if you notice, this one is called Rantings. Having mused for so long and getting angrier by the week, as well as being frustrated by the word limit I have at The Star (800 words), I thought this might be a useful space for me to really rant, rave and rage. And really confirm to all my detractors that I really am a nasty smart-alecky woman, ha, ha.

Anyway I am going to write about all my favourite stuff like the state of our beloved country (breaks my heart), human rights issues ( including that of half of humanity, women), religion ( hey, I actually have one so I should be able to talk about it!), HIV/AIDS ( because it allows me to talk about all the above through a very particular perspective...and because you all need constant reminding)....and maybe politics (because I don't normally). And maybe I will tell you what my daughter said today that was so cute ( and often perceptive), what music I'm listening to (women! Go out and get Sean Ghazi's new album Semalam! Guys, get it for your girlfriends and wives!!!), what movies, that sort of thing. Why not? We are all full and complete people aren't we?

OK, enough already for an introduction. Let's see how it goes.

Well, about damn time...

Welcome to the Bloggerhood, Marina. Earth-shattering or not, it's good to see you (finally) making your presence in the blogsphere... and you have your "compiler" fan Sambal Belacan to thank for enabling me to "find" your blog...

I've been a reader of your column for many years, and I am really looking forward to your posts to come... (yeah, yeah... I did rush here). In fact, Musings is probably the only reason why I used to buy The Star on Wednesdays... (I read the news online these days).

And very soon (once you've put up a few more posts.. heh-heh) a link to this blog shall magically appear on my own blog.

I'm sure my readers will wanna come visit... they're mostly the "thinking" concerned-Malaysian kind...

PEACE!

I've been advertising your column (and now your blog) to my friends. Just read your article today twice through and realise that women and children with HIV/AIDS are extremely vulnerable and helpless. We, as regular individuals without much influence, are equally helpless when efforts to help them don't materialise..

Dear Ms Marina,

This is SambalBelacan. Very sorry for the inconvenient for not asking permission from you. I’m just one of your crowd reader who loves your article. Apparently, I simply copy and paste from the news for my own collection. I have no other intention, never respond to any comments received. Don’t even try to menyamar to be you. Not trying to be rude either. FYI, I also collected (copy and paste) other writers, with no permission too. Never claim that is mine. It’s for my own reading. But I guess, this is one bad reason.

I have no idea how to reach you. So here I am now, asking for your permission to continue with what I’m doing now.

By the way, I'm a male - errmm, doesn't matter isn't it…

Oh...and I don't mind that you're male, SB!

Oh funny...I had posted something else before the last one and it didn't come out! Sorry guys, am new at this.

I just wanted to say thanks for being such loyal readers. Have been thinking about blogging for a long time but been reluctant til now when Sambal Belacan 'forced' me into it. But at least it allows me to provide additional commentary on my columns. I can see now why blogging is addictive!

And the list goes on, and on.
Marina, may I please commend you on your positive and wide outlook. If only ALL MALAYSIANS can see the way you do, then maybe we will all truly live harmoniously.

I recall in my younger days, my parents never had this problem, even though they lived through May 13. Pardon, me I am not stirring any racial issues, but these little intrusions into the daily lives of others somehow creeps in to our community be it muslim, christian, hindus, and others.

Funnily enough, after Tun's retirement, we seem to see a 'free for all' and 'who gets there first get's the bigger cake' attitude, very much evident in the recent UMNO gathering!

My family and I seem to think that we Malaysians are losing the plot. My Father in Law is not allowed to do the job he is doing for the goverment because his boss 'imposes' certain unwritten rules! Anyway, not to lose the plot here.

You seem to make so much sense every time you put pen to paper.
And I am glad I stumbled unto your blog. Please keep blogging, maybe this is one way we can keep ourselves sane!

like many commenters here, i'm a fan of your column 'musing' in the star, thus you can imagine my joy to see you blogging.

welcome abroad, MM!

can't wait to read your rants!!! your 'musings' were already so "pedas"!!!

MarinaM said...

Sambal Belacan, yes you may go ahead. But maybe you should have some sort of introduction that explains that you are just compiling my columns to make them easier to find? Then tell people that if they want to comment, they can but they won't get any response from me because it's not mine? Or you can direct them here.

Woohoo! Thank you so much!...

Hi Marina,
I have your first book and even if online access to your columns is already available, I would still buy your next book :-)

Dear Marina,
Looking forward to your rantings, as long as it is not your rumblings...your musings have been rather A-musings.....
I have yet to write anything substantial in my A-musings of Second Thoughts blog....
Cheers

Dear Marina,

It's such a thrill to learn that you're blogging. I found this through Malaysiakini.
I have not read a lot of your articles but for the few I did come across, I found hopes in Malaysia's future. It's not just about what you wrote, but also your approach to it - the genuine concerns and the courage to be with what's really happening in our beloved country and urge people to take it on together.
I look forward to learn more from you.

cheers,
TzuYen

Hi Marina, welcome to the blogosphere :-) got here through SB's "disclaimer" on that other site, which I had found earlier via Jeff Ooi. Looking forward to your rantings! :-)

1stly I hope you are the real Marina Mahathir. If you are, then the following really applies to you.

Firstly, I thank you for your articles in The Star and I love them. (Even though I don't read all of them).

We Malaysians should be thankful to have a TRUE Malaysian like you. I feel that many elected Member of Parliaments and those in power have a lot to learn from you. If only they think like you, our beloved country would have been so much better. (Have you ever considered to be active in politics ? :) May we vote for you ?)

Besides leaders, I hope all Malaysians are thinking Malaysians like you too.

I like your bravery in trying to “correct” the wrongs in our beloved country with your writings.

“Anyway I am going to write about all my favourite stuff like the state of our beloved country (breaks my heart)” – I think it breaks the hearts of many Malaysians too, including mine. We all want to have a country that we can be truly proud of.

Keep on the good work – whether it’s musings or rantings or whatever, it doesn’t matter. We need people like you who talks/writes sense, to put right what is wrong, and to teach others how to be thinking Malaysians.

Thank you for deciding to blog.

God Bless Malaysia.
