My fellow blogger Elizabeth Wong posted this unbelievable bit of foot-stomping by our Tourism Minister. My, my, what a generalisation-full rant! How's this from a supposedly sober person in high office:
"Bloggers are liars. They use all sort of ways to cheat others. From what I know, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women.
“Bloggers like to spread rumours, they don’t like national unity. Today our country has achievements because we are tolerant and compromising. Otherwise we will have civil war. "
What leadership! What rational statements! And on International Women's Day, women bloggers are defamed as liars and cheats. Fabulous!

I can see tomorrows papers....
Adnan " You see what I mean? All bloggers are liars! And I said women bloggers. Look at rantings and elizabeth wong! They absolutely lied about my statement!"
Get it Sis?
What do you think? Did I see the future? LOL
We certainly have brains larger than peanuts that allow us to discern between an intelligent comment and an impulsive, uneducated rant. :-)
What is so wrong about what he said?
First of all, he said what he knew!
Secondly it was his view!
Are you saying that he has no right at all to say what he wants to say?
Do you have proof to say that what he said was not the fact?
He raised points just as you (and other bloggers) raised points, thats all.
Whatever it is,he shouldn't charged that bloggers are liars...he meant you and me are liars. I don't agree with his views coz there are good and honest bloggers out there. Shame on him,man in a respomsible and high office of trust to say such things.
boh tong (ret. SIA crew executive)
when you have people like that at the top, you start wondering how things really work within the government, how these people get picked for these jobs.
but that has been a longstanding question, hasn't it?
The sad part is how many people will jump on the bandwagon and actually agree and nod sagely as to how right he is and mutter mutter we have to do something. Just so they can get in with him because they perceive that he is in a position to give them what they want. But am glad that there are people who will stand up and call a spade a spade. Thanks for dropping by Kak. Much appreciated ;-)

Do you have proof to say that what he said was not the fact?
and add these too warrior2...
All police personnel are corrupt
All terrorist are Muslim
All politicians are stupid
I think he gave a rational statement.
Ooops... sorry, I just lied... ;-)
wow! Warrior 2... you are absolutely right. He has the right to comment!
...and comment he did!
Proof? Ha ha ha....
Do you think he has a list of 10,000 bloggers, and 8,000 of which are women bloggers telling lies?
Which part of the world do you come from making statements like that?
Raising a point is not shouting like an idiot! DO you really think that what he says hold water?
Now, do you think this is ground to sue?
Yes, i'm a liar. Damn liar!
So what?!!
I believe that we are all just expressing what we feel. Infact, by blogging we can really express our true feelings rather than voicing out literally.
Blogging can especially help people who are introvert and shy, allowing them to express their issues and lifestlyes in a blog.
Hey! Even a shy person has something good or beneficial to say!
Warrior2 looks like you're emotional. Do not let your emotions get the better of your intelligence.
i believe that he going to denied that he made those statement and threat it like nothing happen. if he do so, he going to blame the news paper of misquote him as many our intelligence politician who spoken before saying whatever they feel without consider the consequences.
thanks to most of the our intelligence malaysian who elect those inteligence people who elect those another intelligence people to run our government and make those intelligence academic statement even with no hard fact to support.
and surprising enough our intelligence sin chew reporter enlighten enough to quote and highlight those intelligence statements that supposedly not even worth a drop on press ink and a cent of electricity bills to be printed on.
i believe this is the most intelligence we can be in our society.
Perhaps the tourism minister thought most bloggers are on the opposition side.
The issue was compiled and reposted on this website:
http://malaysianunplug.blogspot.com/2007/03/tourism-minister-tengku-adnan-says-all.html
Warrior2: Of course he can state his views and his opinions. He can start a blog like any of us.
However, I must question his views and his opinions. Politicians rarely make statements that are stupid, no matter how stupid the statement sounds. If it's not a calculated statement, I do not know what it is.
I call to question why he specifically used 8000 instead of 80%. I question why he used the word "unemployed"?
Politicians have agendas when they speak. Very very rarely a genuine slip happens. Tengku Adnan is using his statement to increase his political strength. And believe me, he already did increase his political strength, judging by the response of bloggers (me included). He's won this round. I am going to predict what his response will be (read my blog to find out)
Back to topic - yes, he can raise his points. In fact, it's good to raise points. However, do you not think he is a hypocrite? Speaking of one way, and doing another?
He mentioned (in the Star) that bloggers do not check their facts. Does he check his? (I DO check my facts and stats, so I'd really like to give him my finger).
Yes, he can raise his points, and we can have a looooong philosophical debate over what rights a man has over raising his points, in public or in blogs.
Read Shag's Logical Fallacy Bingo, and check on how many logical fallacies this bugger made.
Natasshea: I do express my feelings. But I do not say that I am 80% frustrated with my girlfriend, or I and 22.223% angry at myself. Do you give numbers when you write about what you feel?
I am 70% sure that you don't do so 100% of the time.
dear kak marina
to me, this is another example (we have seen too many already) of our top people putting their own foot in their mouth. anyway, the mouth is always faster than the brain.
to hear something like this coming from one of our minister's mouth is indeed shocking.
shame, shame, shame
anak malaysia
i think it is good he voiced what he did. Now I know where he stands. Should his polital career birng him to greater heights, it will become his ghost and it will haunt him.
There are people with long memories.
It seems another "pea-brained" member of that elite "TPTB" community is afflicted with food-in-mouth disease, sigh...
How sad that we have leaders as moronic as this... Who vote him into office by the way? I am beginning to question whether Malaysia's democracy is dysfunctional or not!
marina,
it gets worse and worse.
i wonder how women staff are treated in his ministry.
this is too much. its not only jeopardizing the image of the country and where and waht is the proof to show and indicate that they are liars..
i said:
"Yes, i'm a liar. Damn liar!
So what?!!"
Datin
Adnan's foot in the mouth disease reminds me of Pak Sako's reaction when the British blamed him for almost everything. He did not deny:
"Memang le. Semua kawan buat. Bah besar di Pahang tu pun, kawan yang bawak!"
When the truth really hurts, the kid with his hands stuck in the kitty screams a mouthful of empty threats which borders on the obscene... O What a scene!!!
warrior2: He has every right to everything he said. Every word he says, every statement he utters, those things are his rights, guaranteed by Article 10 of the Constitution. The Law of the Land.
To your first statement, if that is all he knows, it’s a darned sad indictment to the knowledge and experience of who we call our “top leadership.”
It would imply, at best that he only views bloggers and people on the Internet ‘spreading lies’ as threats, instead of potential allies or opportunities, or, at the most pathetic worst, that he really buys into the stereotypes or the propaganda. Not in any way is he showing off his best side.
Secondly, yes, it’s his view. This is ours. Freedom of speech does means that people can say what they like, whenever they like. It does not mean that everyone else is obligated to listen, or even respect what he has to say. Or even keep quiet. We can agree with him, disagree with him, whatever we like. And he can respond to that, what ever way he deems fit.
We don’t do this in Malaysia, or even in the region. The same tactics you see reproduced in international fan forums for, say, Battlestar Galactica or, heaven forbid, yaoi hentai used by top leaders in a nation that is reaching it’s fifth decade.
It’s sad when you realize that ‘civilized discourse’ between ‘opposing’ factions degenerates into a name-calling here, almost all the time. We could do so much better.
Sorry, does it sound idealistic? Grownups talking like grownups? Good gracious what was I thinking? I bet great statesmen in the past used this same tactic when dealing with recaltritant citizenry. It’s tradition, I bet.
Or, I know, there’s been a directive to replace our top leaders with Vogons and the memo is covered under the OSA.
(Don’t go to any poetry recitals, just to be safe.)
Calling us bloggers liars? I don't blog about politics but I now can't just sit idle and let some moron call my blogger sis and bros. that. Hey dumbass!! your foul mouth has dragged me into politics now. Be watching your scene from now onwards.
BT.
He is a minister for(put your deity here)'s sake! When he has a case of 'Foot-in-the-mouth' seizure like that during press meet, he should kindly retract what he said and inform the audience he's ill and needs his meds.
What do you think tourist would put on their blogs about Bolehland when our minister of tourism calls them liars and cheats?
Just because he doesn't understand technology doesn't mean he should give up learning and call everyone liars.
Visit Bolehland Year? oh my, it's only March and mr. Dimwit is freakin' out.
Women tap the power of the blog,br/> so never under estimate them MR Tourism Minister
And I quote fr one comment above: "He said what he knew".
Which showed how much he knew.
Sad.
Kepada Bapak-bapak di 'atas' sana,
jangan sampai kerana pulut santan binasa. Jangan sangka panas akan terus hingga ke petang. Jgn lupa check demographics. Nanti kalau hujan di tengahari, baru nak sebuk pujuk wanita2 bloggers untuk pergi mengundi?
What did the bastard mean when he said indians will kill everyone else? Marina, I wish Tun M was still in power. He would have sacked f**kers like this.
What la, this is Malaysia. Apo pun boleh. Nothing is impossible.
Its Malaysia mentality politics........ so sad, like watching comedy :)
jeffrey:
agreed, now that you guys mention about it, it is true that he also has the right to voice his opinions. Well until we get hard facts that what he said is wrong that is......
Marina, just don't mind this fellow. He and the others of the you-know-what party is nothing more than a pea-brained crackpot who thinks he knows the whole world. Remember the saying, "Empty barrels that make the most sound"?
You ladies are doing a fantastic job blogging away to keep us informed on our socio-political happenings. If that bloke says you ladies are telling lies, then the MSM must be the worst liars among the lot for all the spins they have been giving us.
Keep up the good work and God bless.
warrior2
expressing views without citing solid evidence is just bullshit. i can also make up my own stats and say that: from what i know, 10 out of 10 UMNO cabinet members are retards who can talk no sense. in sum, i have to say to you: everyone is entitled to his/her views? my ass!
"He asked people not to believe bloggers and gamble away Malaysia’s future because 50 years of Merdeka (Independence) takes a lot to achieve it."
What the @#$$%@ !!
Is he implying that all that is achieved by the men alone ?
How did he come to the figure of 10,000 women bloggers ? What a dimwit !!
There are probably thousands and thousands of women bloggers all over the world.(Sorry , I do not have the information nor the resources to quote a definite figure like some people could )
They are professionals, wives AND potential visitors to our country ! Have you realised that Mr Dimwit ?
And I am sure they wouldnt want to come to a place where a Minister--and the Toutism Minister at that, is such a @#@#$% on this issue.
Wow ! he has really put in more than just his foot in his big mouth !!!!
Sons and Fathers (a man)
Check if he does know how to use PC first, then check if he has actually viewed the blogs and then check if he does know how to use SMS.
Most of the old fellows do not even know how to use SMS, let alone PC. Hahaha...
Question:
Does this Tengku fler knows what's blogging?
Your father when he was PM also said similiar things. Belonging to U Must Not Oppose, these people continue to bully anyone who doesn't bodek them. Can't think, can't think when they are out of power they will need freedom of the press, can't talk "halus" after 50 years of being in charge,so they still talk rubbish. Does it sound familiar?
jeffrey, hl: Not when it counts, no. People's memories when it comes to politics tend to be very, very short.
warrior2: Of course the Minister is allowed to freely express his entertainingly surreal views. Just as the rest of us are allowed to ridicule him for it, and call him on his crap.
Free speech goes both ways.
Man... Was that a shot in the foot or what? Sigh... Luckily most Malaysians have a relatively short attention span. Yeah, we'll rant and rave about it for a couple of days, then everything goes back to normal.
When will we all learn to put our vote where our mouth is?
Confirms a number of racial stereotypes in Malaysia.
I find it particular telling that the nitwit, dimwit, halfwit, doofus of a person said:
1. Malays will kill Chinese -- in his mind, is he thinking that Malays would make the first move, if this atrocity ever came about? Ask your Chinese friends, and most will say that the Malays will always make the first move. Chinese is only interested in making money, and they'll sell their grandmothers to do so.
2. Chinese will kill Malays -- in the same vein, isn't it logical then the Chinese will strike back in revenge or self-defense?
3. Indians will kill everybody else -- now, this is the real clincher. The Indians are so disenfranchised in Malaysia that they'll just take it out on "everybody else".
There you are. The microcosm of racial relationships right there in his head. Does not augur well for Malaysia.
What do expect from a minister from a HP6 XXXL Cabinet. Maybe his wife should have a word with him and bash him at home.
UMNO ministers are all becoming bodoh and think the rakyat are also bodoh. The other ministers from BN parties, well they don't have a freaking opinion..just yes man.
50th year of merdeka and visit malaysia year..ha ha. will be screwed under this minsiter and the leadership of our Pak Lah and his SIL. Nazri can you something stupid so that this Adna thing can be pushed aside. come on Jantan!!!
Yes he has the right to express his views....but that statement he made is definately the most idiotic and irresponsible one made my a minister. As a minister..he cannot simply say anything and declare it his freedom of speech rights.
Have he considered thousands school girls setting up their blogs to have comminications with people of their ages ...all over the world? These are the hopes of future Malaysians female smart citizens.
What kind of idiot minister talk without thinking twice and yet few are saying he has the rights to do so. THINK!!!
Dear Marina,
It is indeed comforting to know we are constantly surrounded by morons...and to corporate mum...I shudder to think how he treats his wife and daughters-with all due respect... not that I'd like to drag them into this fiasco !
Blog on ladies- I'm with TRUTH and I'm with YOU !!
Yoz Warrior2
of coz lar,he can say watever he wants. same goes with others right? but how we say it and how others perceive it, varies. To you, its ok but to others, might not because we see things differently and we can't stop others from voicing out their views.
There is reasons why people react to his statements. Moreover, those statements comes from somebody up there and his statements have more weight. There must be sth that he said that upset bloggers or maybe we bloggers misinterpret his statements. But whatever it is, if there isn't any need for bloggers to get angry or agitated by his statement, don't you think he should come out and clarify things. Else, let us bloggers voice out our views lar.
Btw, we need 2 way communication in order to learn. how can, one person talk, and the rest act dunno? Act dunno still ok but to agree with everything and anything, oso not good mah. then we don learn and keep on repeating the same mistakes. how liddat??
Hapi
I'm a 20 year old Malaysian student currently in the UK, and you know, having been here for a few years (still am!), i have followed up the Malaysian political scene even more than i have compared to when i was in Malaysia.
Thank god for the whole selection of blogs to read (instead of the rather mainstream & often "transparent" reporting by papers the like of The Star etc.) Since following the political scene, i must say that it's in a right state and what a mess it is, with politicians making irrational, insensitive, and down right stupid remarks all which are personal opinions.
And the fact that newspapers are merely puppets of the government doesn't make it any better. Where is purported "freedom" to express our opinions? I see papers that blast the local UK government here, such like The Independent, etc. I think thats a brilliant for criticism to be given because only then can healthy argument & appropriate reforms be taken to counter those criticisms. However, in Malaysia, from what i've read, the government shies away & automatically goes into self-defense mode whenever any criticism is made. Hence no chance for any sort of views other than that of praise & acknowledgment. So, people who only read mainstream papers tend to be blinded (for lack of a better word!).
Oh well, thats just a small rant of a 20 year old guy who's unhappy with the political state of his country. But point is, it's a view, and it counts. And thank you EVERYONE who's actively blogging & providing constructive criticism to the government as well as a real-world transparent view of what's really happening for i would still be the ignorant Malaysian i was had i not found this genuine source of information.
Cheers!
Wow, thanks for the great response, folks! Just want to apologise for the late posting of some of your comments. I'm just somewhere not too internet-friendly.
i always thought that MALAYSIA is born in 1963, which means we r 6 years short of 50th year, if we stick to 1957, then it should be MALAYA- maybe someone here can tell us more
this is the latest skim cepat famous amongst women....
I am really sad & disappointed that such statement could be uttered by our Tourism Minister .. What was he thinking?? :( :(
Bloggers are all liars....??
Our govt doesn't realize that people are becoming more intelligent...
I have little respect for some of the Ministers especially HIM. What do you expect from a Minister who think that tourists will come all the way to Malaysia to take a ride on Ferris Wheel or watch fireworks? He should have shut his mouth and let us think he is stupid rather than opening it and prove to us that we are right!
NanaDJ
So I am right, he doesn't have much upstairs. He and his Ferris Wheel and nightly fireworks presumably to attract tourists. Who he is kidding? In any case why sigle out women, men bloggers are not liars? What about male politicians, they are not liars? I can name a number of BIG FAT ONES!!!
The biggest liars are in BN and lead by Pak Lah who lied on national TV. And that is Islam Hadhari...seems he is close to prophet status that no one can critic him. And his fellow ministers feel they are above everyone..just look at what Samy and Nazri have to say on toll or corruption issue.
alahaiii... looks like the tourism minister just dropped his watch in the toilet.. he is gonna have shitty time from now on! and oh Marina, thank you for the IWD logo.. and yes! lets make it an annual event.
God bless !
In the next election, vote this dumbwit Minister out. Let him join the ranks of the thousands of unemployeds. Such a small and rotten mind.
If he represents the cemerlang, gemilang and terbilang type, then Malaysia will soon disappear into nothingness.
If that speech was made by a blogger or an ordinary citizen, he/she will be invited to have one week nasik lemak FOC from the government.
That's our double standard justice for all to remember.
And MT site has revealed this so call "Tengku" is an imposter and sued for bankcruptcy case right now.
Bringing the mongolian murder case forward argurs well with Pak Lah's fairness and listening to the voters....but why is he keeping deaf ears and both eyes closed on this T.Adnan speech? Surely he can read his speech and realise it is seriously dividing the races....or is that really what UMNO want ..and that Tengku Adnan is speaking out the truths on behalf of UMNO.
From the way I see it, I think the women in this so called Tengku's life must be bimbos. Otherwise, they would have disowned him. I would, if he was my dad/ husband!
What a MORON! A ninkampoo speaking with his d***.
This piece of news was blacked out by the main media, which means the general female population "saw and heard" no evil.
Our media has the habit of saving VIP faces.
It,s a pity this bigot will have his way in the next general elections as Puteri and Wanita UMNO members will continue to campagn for him.
marinadear,
jgn biarkan 'dia' berlalu pergi..
Out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women, and 95% of statistics are pulled out from the ass
Warrior 2 could be lying + minister could be lying = LIARS.
What makes the difference?
Both does not have proof BUT only WORDS.
How does a chauvanistic, small-minded, egoistical sod like this creature become a minister??????????
It is down right scary to think that our leaders are scrapping the barrel.
My God, if this is the calibre of our cabinet ministers, God save Malaysia.
Nila Tanzil had expressed her gratitude to all bloggers. However, she was suspended by SCTV after that post in her blog.
Read here, detikinet an online media in Indonesia.
Hmmm...all I can say is this: This is so damn typical of a government minister who looks at the world through a key-hole! Narrow-minded with "blinkers" on.He only knows so much and yet holds a top position in the Malaysian government. Makes you shudder to think the size of his colleagues' brains?!.
" Anyone find any loose brain cells scattered on the floor anywhere??" *lol*!
hahaha.... i expected nothing less than this from our dear ministers. come on guys. get real. since when has anything intelligent come out from them?
to look on the brighter side of things, once the mat rempits and ex-mat skodings take over the government, i expect life to be more peaceful. at least, they'll be busy racing and spying than talking...and embarassing us further. hahaha...
I like them. like cartoon like that.

NO! THATS NOT ALL! theres SOMEthing missing.............as a human being.........bla bla bla at last as a soldier,TO KILL OR BE KILLED.
This is what happen when the person is talking on something that he doesn't really know, experience or try . Assumption that , what i didn't do ( or can't or dont know how to do) must be wrong then . example : If i don't know how to blog , then those who blogged must be in the wrong . If i'm a man and i cant be a women , then women must be something bad .
The sad thing is that when a minister , who supposed to be educated , rational and far sighted , thinks like uneducated person .
