Bloggers slammed
KOTA TINGGI: Rumour-mongering bloggers are cowards and a nuisance to Umno, said Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.
Azalina, who is Youth and Sports Minister, said the opposition parties were using the blogs because they know that the Home Affairs Ministry was busy monitoring reports in the mainstream media. (Aha! She admits it!!! They ARE controlling the mainstream media!)
“They think they can get away with it but it is not the case as they too are being monitored,” she said after launching the National Sports Institute satellite centre here. (By her inept cybertroopers?)
Asked on the personal attacks against her, Azalina said it was part and parcel of politics.
“The most important thing is that the leadership knows your capability and wants to retain you. (including the capability to waste money on expensive sports centres overseas?)
“I get more pahala (blessings) everyday with all the lies spread about me, especially by bloggers,” she said.
On talk of infighting in Pengerang Umno especially between her and division chief Datuk Harun Abdullah, Azalina said people could say a lot of things but there was no problem.
“I still see him and I still shake his hand,” she said.
Azalina said she would contest in a seat to be decided by the Barisan Nasional leadership.
“I am a soldier and if the boss asks me to go to war, then I will,” she said. (A war against whom, Aza?)
On the satellite centres, she said seven would be constructed nationwide this year. Each centre costs about RM2mil.

Thanks for the sharp observations, Marina.
She's No. 9 or 8 on the list of Chart Topping Wrong-Doers for her part in the Brickendonbery 'High-Performance Sports Centre' and over payed for items under some of her ministry's program which were exposed by AG's report and yet, here she is, still have 'face' to run again?
I've seen thick crocodile's hide but hers is a suit of armor.
Kak Marina,
I read the part about controlling the main stream media twice this morning and wonder, why on earth would she say that?
The statement tantamounts to admission to something they have long been accussed of doing.
So now, it's no longer an accusation then, its been admitted. Kan senang gitu?
This must be her reaction to some blogs that name her as lesbian and put her pictures there too.
Asked on the personal attacks against her, Azalina said it was part and parcel of politics.
====> maybe there are some truth in the attacks? Otherwise why so uptight with bloggers?
“I get more pahala (blessings) everyday with all the lies spread about me, especially by bloggers,” she said.
====> that's between u and the Almighty. so are u really a lesbian Aza?

=====> Only and him will know. Now lets talk about that haunted expensive sports centre in UK..no?

====> 2mil x 7 = 14mil. another white elepant project of yours? 1st class infra, 3rd mentality. Plunder to blunder.
Ha ha ha! UMNO is a nuisance to all non-UMNO Malaysian not Bloggers, Stupid Azalina! UMNO is, was and will always be a NUISANCE - Dulu, Kini dan Selamanya..
Not really a surprise that she is upset over the 'blog' accusing her of being a lesbian.
While it is true that she is not someone I would want in office, the fact that she may or may not be a lesbian has little to do with it. Pure and simple, she is an inept and wasteful leader, her sexual orientation has nothing to do with that.
I guess it's all just name calling really. Due to the oh-so-controlled media, most BN-ites are used to only getting their views across, so it must be a bit hard for Azalina to accept this.
Marina,
This is by far your most tepid attempt at witty commentary on mainstream news...
Monitorig is not the same as controlling, not unless you ahve a special dictionary you refer to
If politics is not war, then what is is Marina?
have you ever seen people get more ruthless than in politics?
marina ur entry dissapoints me more and more everyday. i really think of u as hypocrite.
Dear Marina;
I am just an ordinary Malaysian Malay who happen to love this country very much. I have been reading your comments on most of the articles published in the mainstream newspapers on current politicians. I am wondering what will you comment if your father is still the Prime Minister? I admire your father but he too has shortcomings when he was the Prime Minister. Please give our current politicians be it Malay, Chinese and Indians, a chance to run this country as they deemed necessary. Your father's time is past and the people can live with whatever mistakes he made during his tenure.
Hello Datin Marina,
Oh ! and you too, the cybertrooping wing of Barisan Nasional. How are you all ?
Bloggers can't be that powerful. In fact, the handphone is more powerful and this is admitted by Barisan Nasional itself. Good to know she still shakes hand with men. I thought somewhere in the Malaysian Islamic law is a silent requirement that men cannot shake women's hands. woah ! I can almost hear the daily patriotic song being played in RTM " inilah barisan kita, yang ikhlas berjuang "...yup...we are so rich...
Finally, someone have admitted about controlling main stream media... hahaha... what a silly... hahaha...
I am not sure why bloggers get all the "attention" by Malaysian politicians. Don't they have better things to do when campaigning than to pay attention to bloggers?????
None in other countries that politician talks so much about bloggers. IMO, they are so incesure by bloggers that they have to day and night think and talk about them. Malaysian politicians are so AFRAID of bloggers!!!!
So...BLOGGERS....you rock!
Marina,
Is this a girl fight?
What's the odds?
Reject all these UMNO-BN apes
azalina supporters,
can you tell me how many tourists visited malaysia to watch the Youth cup. when we paid RM17million for the youth cup, the justification was that the tournament will attract tourist and we will get our monies worth. Please include the parents and the kids. stadium was empty BTW.
and why did she make a fool of the PM with AFC&FIFA in the MU coming to Msia during the Asian cup, whereby she sign the govt's doc of support for the Asian cup to be held in Msia. She is a lawyer and clearly should know that no other matches can be held during the Asian cup. She said Pak Lah is upset and will look into dealings with FIFA and Pak Lah made comments.
I care not of her sexual orientation. But she seems to have lost her believes she stood for once she got into the cabinet. She no longer seems to fight for the truth. The Brickendonbery training center is one that the people didn't want and she still when ahead and wasted lots of money. She didn't realise the local council in UK can't be bought like ours.
well she has two news cars, one is top of the line Audi. Bu what worries we she has adopted a girl. can a single person adopt a kid? Islam allows that?
azalina is the hypocrite. can her supporters talk with facts and debate on the issues above?

The only thing that needs monitoring is ensuring that the media don't stir up racial/religious hatred because instead of people boycotting a newspaper and demanding an apology/resignation of the offending editor, our politicians know that some of the blur Malaysians who vote in inept politicians year in year out are also likely to be blur enough to only know how to mengamuk and go out and kill each other should such sentiments arise.
Yet we all know our mainstream media is very good at self-censorship in the interests of racial and religious harmony, so why the need to waste taxpayers' money on monitoring?
Because if the self-censorship does not extend to covering up the mistakes of the administration, suddenly the following year the paper tutup kedai because annual licence not renewed under Printing Presses & Publications Act 1984. In other words, that is how monitoring can become controlling, albeit indirectly.
Certain quarters are trying very hard to paint a flawless picture of the administration. Remember how a certain politician at one time even tried to equate criticising the government with criticising the Prophet, effectively hinting that the government was infallible? Luckily that statement was retracted.
“I get more pahala (blessings) everyday with all the lies spread about me, especially by bloggers,” she said.
As usual using religion as a lame excuse...
Poor thing she seems to be hurting from Joseph Goebel's most famous quote which of course UMNO totally and unflinchingly subscribes to: "A lie repeated often enough becomes truth"!
Aza, we all learn well from the party you have chosen to associate with. So who really cares when whats spoken now is said in more of a matter of fact way without any pause or hesitation about its truth?
come to think of it there’s not many BN candidates with blog where we can give our views freely like this. Opposition is denied equal & fair appearance in mainstream media but BN denied themselves in blogs & internet presence. How stupid of them. If they put up a blog now, they’re shooting themselves in the foot after all the criticism of the blogosphere.
here's an irony to think about;
its called the ministry of youth and sports, and pretty much of it are just sports so why don' tthey rename it as ministry of sports? what good has she done to the youth in general? what about the rempits? who is in charge? not her? not the youth minister?
screwdrivers for RM45? I could feed a child in Bolivia for 6 months with that amount of money.
Jay Antonio,
While I agree wholeheartedly that her personal life (especially her sexual orientation) should not be used as a political play, I disagree completely with your assessment of Azalina as a 'hardworking and dedicated minister' that should be 'followed and admired'.
The proposed sports complex in London is just one example of the fiasco that is her contribution to sports.
I know full well that the local media constantly hypes her up, but honestly when you read in between the lines (as you really should with most Malaysian media), it is all just empty rhetoric and compelling, but ultimately hollow, promises.
As the reigning minister of Youth and Sports she has presided over a stunning decline of performance. She may not be solely responsible for said decline, her predecessors no doubt have contributed equally to it, but she has certainly not helped arrest the decline much either.
If she is as 'hardworking and dedicated' as you allege, then perhaps despite all her hard work and dedication she simply lacks the much needed ability to get the job done.

for someone to LEAD this position [Sports] which reflect competition all the way...I am embarassed to see our belowed leader win uncontested.
Any minister who wins uncontested or wins with safe areas is a whimp.
Azalina is a SOLDIER!!! SHe admitted it.
She is not a leaders!
We need our MINISTER to be LEADERS!
NOT SOLDIERS!!
She herself has admit her inability to be a minister
Somewhere in the virgin jungle of the Pengerang a baby elephant was heard soulfully sax coaxing her baritone to the famous Kassim Selamat's Jeritan Batinku
Jay Antonio,
Maybe it's just me, but in my books when a politician supports an idea then he/she is already partially responsible for it. Moreso when said politician is the Minister in charge of the branch of government under which that idea comes from.
At best, what you're saying is that Azalina is a sheep that simply toed the line when an idea that should instantly have set the alarm bells ringing was mooted. Personally, I don't see any reason to respect such a culture, nor do I think it is reflective of an example to be followed and admired.
But perhaps I misunderstood you. Perhaps when you said that she was 'hardworking and dedicated', you meant that she was hardworking and dedicated blindly in support of any idea so as simply to 'bodek' her fellow party members.
-Vish.
hah! azalina hardworking at work..? Show me examples please. She is just a messenger. Not a leader. Politics makes strange bedfellows and those who thinks she works hard share her bed.
Get a life..ministers like that a dime a dozen. She is reponsible for the Sports Ministry..if anything is wrong, she must speak up and correct it, and not hide under the excuse of Cabinet decision.
So what is the point having a sport minister, when the Prime Minister can do all the stuff and takes all the blame?
I guess we should sack her anyway, since she is unofficially useless?
Dont waste the public money!
jay..who is the top gun? main tembak saja. Give lah some names..eg Dollah, najib ? Don't just say top gun. Anybody can cooment in the manner you comment. You want us to believe your comment be specific.
eg "it's a different world in the Cabinet Conference Room, it's a different ball game all together"
How do you know what happens in the CCR. Talk like cabinet minister but no substance. Cheap talk
I don't thik if you are a cabinet memeber..you can sit in?
Very Silly of Art Chan to comment in such a manner! Hello? What Jay said is indeed true, I've studied Administrative Law & Politics. As i see it, Jay is well educated on this subject matter. He is indeed right.
Jay and Anon 6,48PM (who speaks just like Jay, funnily enough...), what happens in theory in your Admin Law and Politics courses does not necessarily translate into reality. What more with a PM who hardly ever knows what is going on.
Anyone who's ever worked on Cabinet papers with various Ministries will know that project proposals originate in the Ministries and are then taken up to Cabinet for approval.Having worked with the Health Ministry on several such papers, I can say with some authority that many projects are mooted by Ministers themselves and something like Brickendonbury would certainly have been proposed by the Minister concerned. Then it would be up to her to persuade her Cabinet colleagues and PM to approve it. Obviously she was persuasive. So to say she's merely carrying out orders by a Top Gun would be inaccurate to say the least.
jay and anon6,48PM ....silly or not..it is stupid to apply text book procedures and theory as we all know theory does not always work
marinam says she has "worked with the Health Ministry on several such papers, I can say with some authority "
I am inclined to believe her
As matter of interest..so that I don't think you just tembak only, have you worked on any cabinet papers before. I doubt it....
The only way the Brickendonbery can be passed down by top gun (whoever that is) to a minister can only mean that the top gun has pecuniary interests in the project and pass on to the minister to do so that the top gun can reap the contract benefits. In this case, the minister must be morally upright and object if he or she does not think that the project should go on. Just agreeing to it...like a loyal dog, we don't need minister..we can just pick up a vagrant on the street and give him a minister post
datin marina m,
azalina is not cut out for the post. but she is close to pak lah's daughter nori.
it was intimated to a few that azalina's appointment as the sports minister in april 2004 was a hasty decision. At first she was listed as a parliamentary sec, then deputy minister and then a minister, all in a matter of 30 minutes prior to the announcement.
by right she should have been made a parliamentary secretary first. ask her to go through the mill first. but like many other leaders parachuted into a position, they forget easily.
Kementerian baju dan seluar's coffers were treated as hers to play around with.
national sports council, a statutory body established according to a Parliamentary Act, became her cash cow.
the director general mazlan ahmad retired with 400million in nsc's kitty a few years ago.
latest people say now maybe RM1,000 left.
why don't you check, datin?
her other list of sins
1. the london project - the contractors are friends of hers - one a Tan Sri who has an interest in Hard Rock, another is a first time candidate for a state seat in Selangor.
2. do you remember when she mooted the idea of a sports community hall for every state constituency?
