Why do I think this smells to high heaven?

Ex-minister had no intention of outraging my modesty, says lounge promoter

By LOURDES CHARLES

KUALA LUMPUR: The woman who alleged that a former Cabinet minister had outraged her modesty now wants to withdraw her report, claiming she “misunderstood” the incident.

The 30-year-old promoter at a lounge in a five-star hotel here, in a statutory declaration sent to Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail through her lawyer Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said she was “sensitive and moody” at the time of the incident last Thursday.

She said she had known the former minister over the past five years, and that he had acted in jest without any bad intention. However, she said she felt offended at that time due to her “complicated mood which led to her lodging a police report the next day.

“I realise now that I may have misunderstood the entire episode that took place last Thursday.

When he jokes, he sometimes likes to touch my shoulder or arms but it is something that I accepted as normal among friends especially those we have known for a long time,” she said in her statement.

The woman also said she regretted lodging the police report, as there was no intention on the part of the former minister, who is still an MP, to outrage her modesty or act inappropriately.

She said she was used to the VIP’s jokes and “rough ways” and had never objected to his actions nor felt offended by it previously.

“I cannot remember exactly the conversation between me and the VIP although in my statement to the police I may have said something else.

“I am afraid I may have misinterpreted or misheard (him). The VIP concerned is known to always joke like that and it is normal for him to be like that,” she said, and apologised for lodging the report.

Gani confirmed he had received a fax copy of the statutory declaration from Muhammad Shafee.

“I will forward this request to the police and it is up to them to investigate and get back to me,” he said.

Well....so sexual harassment is a figment of a woman's imagination, based on her mood, is it? And funny that she had put up with his 'jokes and rough ways' while he was a Cabinet Minister and not anymore, at least for a day ? And what is wrong with not being in the mood to put up with his hands anymore?

He's still an MP though. So we are to put up with an MP who likes to joke this way with women in lounges? With people like these, what's the odds that the proposed Sexual Harassment Act will get passed?

Just Joking Johnny, huh?

MM I agree with you. This really STINKS to the core! “A sudden change in mood”? How convenient! Then again it is keeping with the trend, don’t you think?

I wonder who this politician is…

I vomited when I read this joke. 1st of all, he has been "touching touching" her for 5 years as she has said. She added that she was ok with the "rough ways" of VIPs. Care to explain "rough"? Is it when people turn "mood" in beds and turn up and down and things get rough? Hooii, this woman is a joker. A shame.

Now, the Minister is a Muslim. So he should be accused of khalwa and sent to jail like the poor young Malays are done to. How can he touch touch her shoulders, arms (read not hands), and you know when man goes for arms( Upper hand), there is somthing precious near that. And knowing that the minister has touched her "buttocks", for 5 years, what else do we need? I think this is the biggest joke I have ever read of. Anyway, Islam Hadhari has been proved effective in this regard, so we want women to persue this case to the end and force the MP to resign.

who is this MP..?

I think the poor woman must have been threathen or being offered a big amount of money to keep her mouth shut... there's no other reason... just like in the movies...

MM, no matter how much cover up , the reputation of the ex-Minister is severed tarnished. It is commom knowledge that the said ex-Minister has his weakness for such vice , in between his willing and dealing.

Dear MM..

And everyone else...
Only one simple comment here :

This is MALAYSIA ... That's why so many go to all lengths to be a "Yang Berhormat". To be able to do "things" and "get away" with it!

Poor ole Chua...he didn't have that POWER than some seem to wield.

When is the new ACA commision going to swing into action?

Until then, Hail ye...Hail ye...haha!

Ooo... a randy MP I see!! Looks like Malaysia will make it to the top 5 in the upcoming DUREX survey! Wuahahahahahahahhaa!!!

Sigh...this is not something new or shocking right? Even the fact that the lounge hostess has withdrawn her report is also nothing new. Think of it logically la....how could a lounge hostess afford the fee of a lawyer burok?? what more a lawyer like Mohammad Shafee Abdullah. Working as lounge hostess earns mega bucks ah? Get real la... Of course some deal must have transacted la.... Sigh... like that la, woman shame their sista!

Anyway, I still think Uncle Chua Soi Lek is the best.. So hero.. dare to admit! Like that la.. be a man! unlike this MP... hmmm....

This ex Minister from Pahang with double alphabet name is also the same one that smoked cigar on a MAS flight and gave the whole plane a chokeful one. This is bcos the BN dared not punished these type of scumbags and arrogance has crept into all of them. They are behaving more like half devil than demi god.I really wondered how the PM's wife think of this if his husband can condoned such behaviour and arrogance.Like Murphy's Law, it can happen to her too.

Dear Datin
Firstly, in regard to today's topic, to me both are pathetics and "Kuang Ajar".
Secondly, I am more interested in your recent write-ups, The VIP Guides for Dummies. When are you going to continue? It was an interesting reading and I hope you will continue with the article.
Thirdly, thanks a bunch.

Prime bull shit steak!

How does a woman misinterpret a poke in the boobs by a man who is not her husband or fiance? Or forget what may have been spoken of but remembers she reported something else in a police report?

Very selective memory and sudden change of tack. Has been happening of late everywhere from Royal Commissions to Presidents and Prime Ministers.

So, Marina, tell me, what's "outraging modesty" ? You said the 30-year old GRO was touched on her "hands", while she was in a bad mood, by an ex-minister she has known for 5 years,in that room that night, and after careful consideration the next day made a police report, and after a further careful consideration, took the time to pick a pricey lawyer to rebut her police report and effectively called herself a liar ?
I smell something here, and it's not B.O.
She sounds pretty experienced to me.He sounds pretty naughty, too ( "arms" my foot - pardon the pun ).
OK, I'll make my guess here.Ex-minister went to his old karaoke haunts, grabbed, and I mean GRABBED his regular woman, who got fed up of the rough bugger, tempers flew, boyfriend persuaded her to make police report, ex-minister panicked, persuaded boyfriend to persuade woman to withdraw police report, and gave money ( lots of money ) for lawyer and bruised pride.
I want to know who the ex-minister is.I can't make a guess, there are too many possibilities.

my dear marina this makes me sick to the core. im trying to see this from TDM's view, he must have been so sad by the news that Guffaw Baba did the same to a girl in Sarawak, hugged her in front of thousands. and then UMNO lost sarawak to the opposition. of course our great Tun had to punish him by replacing him with Anwar. How many times have our dear Tun been tricked and deceived by hiring no-goods. Imagine, dear Tun being deceived. How about Rahim Thamby Cheeky who laid the underaged. Obviously dear Tun must've also been annoyed by him. I agree with Tun, though, that as friends he shoulnd't be prosecuted, just lose the money making Melaka CM post that's all. That's how dear Tun is, blood is thicker than water

as a malay muslim malaysian, i am totally disgusted with the MP's act.

for once, i hope the parties concerned will be able to think straight. this is no more a political issue, so put politics aside.

i don't care if the sexual harassment act is yet to be passed. where are the great party whip or disciplinary board or whatever name u gave to that body?shouldn't they do something about this??don't u have a code of conduct for MPs?

this guy don't deserve to be called a VIP. he don't even deserve a place in Parliament.just because the police report was withdrawn doesn't mean he's clean.a wrong remains a wrong.
please do something about it.

funny..so much for our 'first class mentality'..

This issue would probably end right here... If there were no such thing as the Pakatan Rakyat.

If this issue is not brought to rest right here, right now, I suggest everyone write to their members of Parliament, asking for some improved bill of rights for women.

In this instance, one would hope the mainstream media would focus on this issue and shame the man into resignation instead of focussing on a certain pig farm in Selangor.

If the purported MP can "touch" the woman like that in just by knowing her for 5 years, imagine for someone he might know for more than that???

Look at the trend, Chua knows his purported "close" friend for ages.. and he admitted to have done it.

By the way, this purported VIP has been know to act such deeds while joking. I wonder, how many "jokes" does he had??

Hmmmph.. that guy is a disgrace to us level headed (but still hot blooded) malay males...

What makes him think being an MP or ex-minister gives him the right to *menggerayangi cocktail waitresses?

Actually it reminded me of another sad case, Sufiah's father. I believe these transgressions happen because they were under tremendous mental stress. Their lives have broken down; Joking Johnny losing a minister-ship and Yusuf's prodigious daughter had turned against him and causing him anguish.

Or were these base feelings there along, only it took some spark to make them happen?

(*menggerayangi - Indo term for fondling, as in the 'sexually-harassed" sense)

The credibility of women citing sexual harrassment, molestation and rape in Malasyia is what becomes undermined with these kinds of news. The last time, if memory serves me right is that of the underaged girl whose grandmother had previously complained that the girl had been raped by the Malacca Menteri Besar. It was not so much that Lim Guan Eng went to jail for furthering hte allegation. IT was just before the 1999 General Elections when for just one day, this girl, together with her husband, were frontpaged b almost all the newspapers denying that she had had any sexual liasons with the MEnteri Besar...or former by this time...that did it for women.

It is a matter of time when these two incidences are cited by accused men to show the uncertainties and unreliabilities in the accusations of molestations and rape by women in Malaysia.

I have two daughters myself. If ever, this were to happen to them..how tenable will their protestations be?

These girls must now be charged for making false allegations in the first place.

Everybody is guessing who this ex Minister is and still an MP, also a Muslim ? Following are some of the ex Ministers (Muslims)who are still MPs but not reelected as Ministers :
1. Datuk Sri Tengku Adnan
2. Datuk Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis
3. Datuk Sri Azmi Khalid
4. Datuk Sri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad

Next, who of those guys smoke cigars?
Who also frequents to hotel lounges for booze ?
My guess is as good as yours.
But nevertheless we are quite sure that the lady got rich overnight from her action of retracting the police report. MALAYSIA BOLEH

The "mood"explanation is just an excuse.

I think the woman withdrew her report for one of two reasons:

1. The ex-minister paid her off, or
2. Her boss (the lounge owner) told her to do so, so as not to lose future business from the ex-minister and his friends

Pushing hard to get the life force
As the white misty clouds floating by

The darkness deepens
The evil tries his best to explore
Into the region he can
Crying out loud into the sky
‘Let me have it
Be merciful on my pitying soul’

The white misty clouds stop
Dancing its light playing into his dead eyes
‘You have your time
You forget to mark your day
So now you pay for your deeds
Forgetting to heed my advice’

The dead tree trunk crumbles
Branches dropping out of life
The white misty clouds sing
‘Pray for your soul
Don’t be proud in your time
It is just a moment in history
Then you are gone
Leaving nothing behind’

Datin,

Just out of curiosity, i have known you for fighting the right of women, always highlighting the great archievement of women wherever they are, May Allah bless you. But why no words from you and also other women champion groups on the appointment of women deputy speakers in Perak and Selangor, they created history in each state assembly. Adakah kerana mereka dari pihak pembangkang, so nothing great about it? Must women be from mainstream or goverment pro groups to be able to get some praise?

Maybe for this women group champions, women right is only for those sharing similar interest with them....

Anyway, where on earth can we find justice! Fairness is very subjective, those whoe who has the interest has different interpretation.

Nyna, not that I have any prejudice against PR women, just that haven't had time to do much blogging.Just because I don't comment doesn't mean I don't support; just that a woman's life is very full and busy.

I was with two of my women's activist friends last night and we all lamented the lack of time to comment on everything that's going on (eg Bung Mokhtar being made Deputy Chair of Backbencher's Club). Partly because it's April when fund proposals and reports have to be done.

Anyway I had a column last Wed in The Star about women in politics if you care to read it.

Everybody in my town is talking that Jamaluddin Jarjis is the suspected ex-Minister in this sexual harrasment case. Oh Boy, if this is true, luckily our angkasawan was a male . If she was an angkasawati, she would have been molested and fondled by this ex-Minister through dramatic hugging and kisses before and after the launch to space in Russia.

Why did anyone want to make a police report if the so called molest was just touching of shoulder or arms?I am sure when she made the report what she had in mind or what the MP did was more than touching her arms or shoulder?I know that touching a woman without her permission or even any gestures constitute a molest case but i am sure when she reported she was molested she felt that her modesty had been outraged by the MP.I am sure in the report it did not say that she was molested by the MP by touching her arm or shoulder. In my opinion she could have been warned by someone or even threaten maybe to drop charges or she will be a very rich molested woman by now.If touching a womans arm or touching her shoulder could be interpreted with molest, luckily Michelle Yeoh did not report our dear Pak Lah when he touched her shoulder and and her arm and when he put his arms around her!Pak LAh could be in DEEP Shit if she reported those incidents!..with picture proof some more!

Datin,

Yes, i read your column. Interesting and very spot on indeed! Especially why do we need Puteri? At the end it became Puteri Tua who is not well accepted in Wanita eventhough many of Wanita themselves are still muda jelita...

Yes, April is a busy month for most people... appraisal, salary review, salary adjustment, annual report, etc...... Pls if you have time put some highlight who are Bung Mukhtar and that ex-Minister. For me, eventhough what this ex-Minister did (or didnt) ought to be investigated, how he managed (or rather wasted) our money in Angkasawan promo activity and how he has spent our money meant for national biotech development should be clarified!

Have a good Sunday Datin!

Unless we males start learning how to respect women, this will be just that, another joke in the sad state of our country. The burden should always be on us to be gentlemen and not the women to be 'uncheap'(for wanting of a proper word).

If an educated, well traveled member of Parliament can do this in jest, it should not be a shocker when you read all those babies being dumped in toilets and shallow graves. Or schoolgirls being raped by school guards. Or little girls yet to see puberty being snatched from their houses.

If this is the society we strive to be, no number of mega this and mega that(maybe mega sale could be the exception) will matter.

(anwar @ April 26, 2008 5:45 PM, you sure 'bout the angkasawan?
