Wanita Umno proposes formula for Malaysian race
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 - Wanita Umno has proposed a formula to realise the formation of a Malaysian race as enshrined under Clause 3 of the Umno Constitution by outlining six thrusts.
Its vice-chief, Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim said the thrusts included defending the country's independence and sovereignty; and upholding and defending the Federal Constitution, the state constitutions and the constitutional monarchy.
Others thrusts include upholding, defending and spreading Islam, respecting the principle of religious freedom; upholding the sovereignty of the race and social justice by practising parliamentary democracy and improving the economy of the Malays and Bumiputeras, and the people. (Which people?)
Kamilia said the government should also ensure that the national language remain as the sole official language and the Malay culture as the thrust of the national culture; and forge cooperation among races to produce a strong and united Malaysian race based on humanitarian rights, and protecting the Malay and Bumiputera special rights. (Can't bring themselves to say 'human rights' huh?)
Kamilia proposed ways on how the thrusts could be carried out by Umno and the government.
Umno should appoint bloggers to counter slander and allegations on the internet and set up a strategic cyber research division, she said when debating the presidential policy speech at the Umno general assembly 2008, here today. (Oh ya, bring them cybertroopers on...didn't Azalina do a good job last time?)
She said the federal and state constitutions should be made a compulsory subject in school and in training programmes in the civil service and the private sector while history should be a subject in Umno cadre training. (Yes I agree that everyone should study the Constitutions and history, not just UMNO cadres..)
She said Wanita Umno also proposed the setting up of a secretariat on the rulers institution and to promulgate a law to protect the sovereignty of the institution.
On economy, she said the movement proposed the implementation of the Wanita Umno economic plan in the second economic stimulus to provide more opportunities to enable more women to go into business.
Kamilia said Wanita Umno also proposed a plan to enable the people to earn extra income to be launched while the social ills among the younger generation could be addressed by turning the social code into a law. - Bernama (Er...what social code?)

Well I never thought Kamilia was an intellectual giant and this kind of confirms that. Talk about fudging all over the place!

Dear MM,
maybe it's not my place to say this, but I've always think that special privilege should only be given to handicapped.
MM
You certainly are enjoying yourself walking the fine line aren't you....I guess short of full scale war with Wanita UMNO you certainly are dicing with a head on. No worries..on this I am on your side all the way!
You asked Which people?. Well going by the formulation set by KLSE when it comes to Bumiputra allocation, I guess they must be suggesting the bumi quota first and then the unsuccessful bumis get into the same pool as the non-bumis for a second shot at whatever is being dished out!! Come to think of it I guess the first bumi quota might just turn out to be an UMNOPutra quota.
Sorry to say this but unfortunately UMNO has handicapped the Malays and it would seem like they (meaning UMNO) actually benefit from operating under the assumption that Malays are lesser than they really are. That the Malays require their protection. That the "other people" are only out to destroy the Malays or to take away everything that they have got.
Will they ever grow out of this? I don't think so. When they think lesser of some of my Malay friends they certainly are insulting them.
Hi MM,
Bumiputera needs to be redefined for this to have any relevance.
The real handicaps in Malaysia have been neglected by the UMNO led govt.Do we have buses which are handicap friendly?None.Do we have walkways or pavements which are handicap frindly?Practically none. How many car park lots are specially alloted for the handicaps in towns or in shopping complexes?Practically none. How about handicap friendly public toilets?I havent seen many.Do we have special taxis to accomodate, those on wheelchairs or non-ambulatory elderly people?Basically none. How many of our traffic light post has beepers to help the blind?
But Kamilia sees it fit to talk about the rights of only certain group, the others to her are not fit to be called humans perhaps. There is this wheelchair bound Malaysian guy who moves around with the help and love of his dog and is still fighting for the rights of handicap persons in Malaysia, but nothing much he could achieve so far.How can he achieve, when we have politicians like Kamilia, with such narrow ,parochial mindset who knows nothing about human or Malaysian rights but only knows the rights of a certain ethnic group.
So much for change.
God bless Malaysia.
kartun betul lah si-kamilia tu, bila mouthing all those pseudo-profundities.
MM, can you just forget UMNO for a second as it's getting less and less relevant to any of the human or woman rights issues you champion for? There are many other political parties that are there to champion for the causes and I believe they will do much better job than UMNO, such as DAP and PKR. Btw, are you switching off any of your houselight to observe earth hour tonight? I'm sure UMNO won't give a damn to this, please don't be like them =.=
Joseph, the news right now is about the UMNO General Assembly and I am commenting on that. If the other parties have their GAs on and they said dumb things too, then I will comment on them. For the moment, I have yet to see any of those parties doing or saying anything particular for women. Please do write about their feminist stances if they have them.
As for Earth Hour, I was one of the first people they approached to support it and I am. I did an interview for them somewhere. But as it happens, I have to go to a family friend's son's wedding tonight and I don't know whether they aim to switch off the lights during dinner. So please don't patronise me.
I am busy packing to also catch a flight tonight to a meeting overseas.
have a safe trip tonight Marina..
Dear all,
"My world is no part of this world"
What does it mean?
1John4:4-6
YOU originate with God, little children, and YOU have conquered those [persons], because he that is in union with YOU is greater than he that is in union with the world. They originate with the world; that is why they speak [what proceeds] from the world and the world listens to them. We originate with God. He that gains the knowledge of God listens to us; he that does not originate with God does not listen to us. This is how we take note of the inspired expression of truth and the inspired expression of error.
We are not involved in politic and remain neutral on both parties.
Dear MM, safe journey :)
Dear MM,
First of all 'Thank you 'for all the good work you have done to promote Aids awareness in Malaysia.
Your work has helped a lot of people who at one time had no where to turn to for advise etc.
Yes, when will the Government stop dividing us into bumi/non bumis and a Malaysian race will emerge once the parties stop playing racial politics !
I believe Kamila has to be bias in her plan to create a Malaysian race as she is is an UMNO wanita deputy chief. All I see is the Malays equation, how about the non-malays.I don't know whether UMNO is capable of bringing true change as it's structure is such a way that it don't need other races votes,so they don't need to be considered to other races and the ideology of UMNO is held so sacred that any individual that wants any adjustment to remain relevant will be resisted and the individual will be politically discriminated and later kicked out(look at Zaid Ibrahim).
I am a Dayak, a bumiputera. As for special rights, I shall say that such rights are really questionable for people like me. I mean, what special rights? I've never exercised them before. But I'm not going to make any fuss about enforcing that so-called special rights because it is time that we bumis learn how to compete at the same level of those who comes from other races. Lets keep the term special people as to refer to the physically disabled community.

"the social ills among the younger generation could be addressed by turning the social code into a law"
i think she has forgotten that malaysia is not a homogeneous society. therefore, it is impossible to enact a particular society's social code into a law which will affect the whole malaysian.
she also seems to overlook that social ills are not exclusively endemic amongst the youth.
i am in amazement why those old people always point our noses when it comes to social ills as if the are free from them.
older generation is also affected by various kinds of social ills, i reckon. corruption, money politics, chauvinism, racism, and sexism are prevalent amongst them. one more thing, they practice hypocrisy while preaching about piety. sigh.
I am non-bumi and would love the idea of a Malaysian race, but how to even consider when in the same sentence as the Malaysian race, they also mention Malay and bumi rights? I'd like to send her a dictionary with the word oxymoron heavily underlined! (btw, I just realised the word oxymoron consists of 'oxy' and 'moron'! ha ha
i am so confused... :-D
what the duck is she saying????
my guess is that she is confused herself!
Does Kamilia know the meaning of sovereignty?
Six thrusts and all will be satisfied and climaxed?
