Re-training for Umno leaders
SHAH ALAM: All Umno leaders, including the top brass, will be undergoing ‘re-training’ programmes aimed at promoting a more dynamic mindset in championing the rights of all Malaysians, party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Describing it as a “back-to-school session”, Muhyiddin said it was part of the party’s revitalisation plan to ‘inject’ a new spirit into party leaders in preparation for the next general election.
“We want to sensitise the leaders to fight for all Malaysians, not only the Malays.
“We also want them to adopt a people-friendly approach,” he said, hinting that the 13th general election could be held earlier than the March 2013 deadline.
The party’s supreme council members would start the ball rolling by attending a retreat at Ilmu (the Umno Empowerment Training Institute) in Janda Baik in the next few days, he said.
“The top leaders will have a pow-wow session to identify weaknesses and draw action plans to strengthen and revitalise the party,” he said, adding that a self-reflection session was also included in the training module.
Speaking at the opening of the Shah Alam Umno division delegates’ conference, and later when closing the Tanjung Karang Umno meeting yesterday, Muhyiddin said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi would head a committee in charge of formulating the training modules.
“After the supreme council members, we will extend the programme to all states to train division and branch leaders.
“We hope to train as many leaders as possible within the next two years. We want to project the right image, one that is humble and people-centric,” he said. (So they know they aren't?)
The programme would also promote unity among the members.
Muhyiddin, who is also Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, said all the component parties in the coalition must initiate reform plans to keep it formidable. (Is that 'formidable' in the French meaning ie fantastic?
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the training programmes were aimed at preparing the party leaders for the changing political landscape.
“Times have changed, and we must change with the times. We want leaders to be more proactive. We want them to think of themselves not only as leaders for Umno members but also for a multi-racial community.
“We must remind the leaders that this is a multi-racial country, and we must be sensitive to what the people want,” he said. (You don't say...!)
Gee, I'd actually be excited if I could actually believe that this 're-training' was real. For a start, having Zahid Hamidi work out the training modules doesn't bode well because I haven't seen his track record in this type of thing. Wasn't he made a Minister of Religion in the last Cabinet? Is that suppose to qualify him?

I don't understand what's the purpose of this kinda training while Utusan Malaysia induce disunity and distrust between muslims and non-muslims in this country and elsewhere. mm, I don't think UMNO is wrong only 'lately'...
They should start by closing down Utusan first.
These days, our country's politic scares me. I guess we need to get back to Tun Dr Mahathir's way. He was the best.
it will end up in prime TV and news paper full of you praise me i praise you statements. wat else?
Our politicians are bankrupt of ideas, superficial, arrogant and out of touch with reality. How can they ever hope to change people from the outside? Training programs is not what they need. INTEGRITY cannot be grafted into their personality especially the likes of Nazri.
What UMNO needs is surgery to remove cancers like Nazri and others like him and boldness of character to appoint leaders who are smart and beyond reproach. However if their program can "change" and make a person like Nazri insaf, I will vote for them.
UMNO today is beyond redemption, sad to say for a party that has given us impeccable, visionary & gentleman leaders in the past.
kelakar, kan?
Those who attack the PM are wrong. He's one of the smartest, fairest & most honest Prime Ministers ever.
They attack him for being a 2-faced, fork-tongued hyprocrite- that's nonsense.
They asked as to why he is tolerating the bigoted comments in Utusan. He's not.
Give him time to make 1Malaysia a reality, it may take 1 year or 1,000 years but the day will come!
In fact I heard they're already sending the UMNO members for training. Training to be super good humans ("super" because, they're already quite good!).
Just you wyte, 'enry 'iggins!
Who is footing the bill?
I don't know what DPM is talking about. A few days ago he said that UMNO will always fight for the rights of Malays and now he says UMNO will champion the rights of all Malaysians? Gee, my head is spinning already lah!
Perhaps, we should suggest some of the module for the training.
eg: Nazri Aziz - How to feel emphathy. At lease to shut his mouth when he have nothing sensible to say.
Sorry if I were to throw cold water over this 'excitement' about the training programme for UMNO members. They may undergo the training for 1 day, 1 week or 1 month but after it is all over, they'll be back to their same old 'racist' ways again. Nothing will change.
Yes I agree with abdulhaleem but I don't share his destructive cynicism/scepticism!
When positive moves are being made we should not be "killjoys" and search for faults or cracks in the efforts!
We should contribute meaningfully -concrete ideas, suggestions, proposals, programmes - on how they can be effected.
And I agree with Marina that the trainers and facilitators (local and interenational) must come from outside UMNO.
The communication, rhetoric and discourse must change and we can't have the same blabbermouths in MT talking down to the bahagian, cawangan and grassroots!
When will they ever learn!
Datin Sayang! So kelakar lah these monkeys! Too much BS! i can't take it anymore.
Today, Teoh will be laid to rest & he takes BN along with him. I rest my case!
The re-training is necessary for UMNO members especially the member # 0001.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — In what appeared to be a veiled criticism of the prime minister’s economic reforms, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad played the race card in a posting on his blog yesterday by claiming that non-Malays, and particularly the Chinese, were the real masters of the country.
Dear Marina,
Please do us a favour by asking your dad to stop writing those horrible racist articles. Forever pinning whatever that is ailing this country on the Chinese. He keeps on stoking racist sentiments. Pitting one race against another. With comments like this, how on earth are we going to tread the path of unity?
What a brilliant idea ! .
May I suggest a must have
"Do and Don't UMNO Handbook for Dummies " ? .
Dear Marina,
Can you really "train" someone to empathise with others?
It takes years of upbringing to mold us into the person that we are today, and while there are always room for changes, I seriously doubt any so-called retreat would make a snobbish, know it all into a humble, all caring person.
I hope to be proven wrong, but didn't Umno went into a similar kind of reflections-retreat sometime ago.
They just need to accept that things tolerated then is just not acceptable now.
And grow WITH the experience and not against it.
Who is paying for such things ah? Another one of those holiday at taxpayers expense again? Another one of those "to benefit" someone's abang adik adventure again? Come on man! Enough of such crap!
Please la.. such things cannot be taught, trained or brain stormed la. Being human, having conscience and doing good comes from within!! If such things can be taught, trained or brain stormed, than these bugger's mamas havent been doing a good job la! What nonsense!
Dear Miss Dearly Pink, all these divide and rule things were championed by mm's father and reenforced so much so that this is what we get into now. Thank god he's no longer our PM. The situation will be worse as time goes by if this country continues this divide and rule policy, I believe.
Marina, please read :)

Champion the rights of all Malaysian? Good. Start by stopping the dricrimination on the non Malay Malaysians. Take away whatever quota system. Take away the discount for bumi when buying houses. The discrimination must stop. Are we not all Malaysian?
I think it's a good move by UMNO. At the least, this proves that UMNO knows and admits there is something wrong, somewhere.
Will this move bring some (positive) change? We don't know. But let's wait and see.
As for Pakatan Rakyat, which recently came out with its totally laughable 'shadow cabinet' (not to mention 15 months too late from their original promise), when they will ever realise and learn how desperately they need a re-training for keinsafan?
People seem to forget that PR also governs (almost half of) the Semenanjung. And nobody ever question the racist PKR, the racist PAS and the super-racist DAP. Hmmm, I wonder why.
Well Joon, Dr.M wouldn't agree with you lor...
Another Shocking news Datin, in kuantan, they decided to sentence a Singaporian Muslim Female Model 6strokes of the Rotan for drinking beer in a pub!
My God! What utter nonsense is this? What is Malaysia turning into? Isn't my Body and my lifestyle absolutely my business?
Am i subjected to such torture if i'm a Muslim? This poor girl is not even a Malaysian to begin with!
Apparently Biro Tatanegara, BTN requires more trained staff. And this will be the training ground for new recruits to the expanded BTN to spread the UMNO message amongst the people so that we all know our own space under the Malasysian sky!. There will also be a new requirement for all non-Malays. After this scheme is proven successful the KPIs for BTN trainees is how many non-Malays they can get to allocate a special place in their homes for an alter to these UMNO bigwigs!!
Btw Joon ,
You people had a 4000 years head start ok ? ....so it's not discrimination.
Just stalled yourselves for 4000 years and maybe we'll catch up........
Rem wrote "this proves that UMNO knows and admits there is something wrong, somewhere"
- PROVES? That word means that, after applying some fool-proof test, there is now beyond a shadow of doubt.
"the racist PKR, the racist PAS and the super-racist DAP"
- Wow, Rem, you really are some smart fellow. I'm glad you've realized that UMNO, MCA & MIC are not racist at all! Baby, if you are not already in politics, please join one of the non-racist parties like UMNO Sabah. I'm sure, as a Dusun attending an AGM in PWTC, you'll find them very palatable instead. PKR has such racist leaders like Nik Aziz, Nizar & LGE.
unbelievable ... another way of wasting rakyat's money ..
Buyung Adil: "That word means that, after applying some fool-proof test, there is now beyond a shadow of doubt [that they are racist?]."
Yes, exactly. That is what I was trying to say in my previous post. The only difference is, I see that as a positive sign. And, you don't. So, let's agree to disagree.
Buyung Adil: "Wow, Rem, you really are some smart fellow. I'm glad you've realized that UMNO, MCA & MIC are not racist at all!"
You missed my point -- completely. :-) What I said was this: UMNO/BN is as racist as PKR/DAP/PAS has ever (and always) been. UMNO/BN are now doing something about it. The Pakatan Rakyat isn't.
And, please re-read my post. I didn't say Nik Aziz (or Nizar or whoever) is racist. I said PAS is racist (and please remember, racism comes in MANY form!).
I don't know whether you have problem in reading -- or you just happen to read 'too much' (overanalyse) my statement. Which ever, I'm willing to forgive you for misunderstanding my point. :-)
"I'm willing to forgive you for misunderstanding my point"
That's good Rem, the ability to forgive is a rare commodity.
As to whether the various parties are racists or not, we just got to read Harakah, Rocket, Utusan, etc and then form our own conclusions.
May Allah grant us discernment!
;)
Rem, can you elaborate since when DAP or PKR has been racist? Your observation is clearly from 1 tiny temburung. Or you just get the news from Utusan Malaysia or Berita Harian only, but nowhere else? To be frank, I sometimes read Rocket Paper. There's no racial or religious element in it at all.
Utusan is the most racist paper. It is
a tool used to divide and rule;
otherwise race-based parties are no
longer relevant.
Ordinary Malaysians actually live in
harmony if left to themselves.
What's happening in Dr.M's Blog in his latest posting is very detrimental to this country and many of those who have commented there deserve to be thrown into ISA for being a threat to national security.
I am just too shocked on how a Man like him can post such a comment without thinking twice! he doesn't realize that he will be called to the Lord's house one day while leaving this country in racial chaos!
so basically they have just publicly admitted that their top brass are not up to standard, i.e. have questionable integrities, are not people friendly, not rakyat centric and least humble.
i wonder why they are there in the first place?
And to make things worse, the entire "sensitization programme" is being developed in view of the imminent "surprised" 13th GE, i.e. a political ploy to pull wool over the rakyats' eyes..
haihh....
ISA similar like ISC in singapore.. very important for our internal security.. Salam...nice blog...salam kunjung ke idyavie.blogspot.com & sudi2 lah register as my follower TQ
I think it is a good thing what they are doing right now. It is a bit late but better late then never.
However, can they be consistent on this? I mean, normally they have this hu ha for a few months then things go back to it used to be.
The government should be consistent in doing these program, those who attend are not going to transform to angels immediately. It takes continues and consistent training to get the message through.
I totally support these kind of trainings. Agreed with the blog that they also need competant people/trainer to for this sort of training.
Idyavie wrote "ISA similar like ISC in singapore.. very important for our internal security"
How true, how true!
I wish more people think like you do, i.e. I'm talking about those who can think in the 1st place.
People like you.
INA,
Its really funny, this umno thing, its survival and thats it. No one, not anyone is really bothered about anyone else.
Malaysia used to be heaven in the 60s n 70s where you would agree, that there was no friendship by race. If the chemistry clicks, we were friends and no politics were ever involved. BUT now, SHIT lah,WHY what happened ???????????????????????????
Why the fear of malay, chinese indian or dll. What the hell happened.Where is the pure love for a friend.
Tak tahu lah, we are faced with so much fear to even go out for an evening unlike those days where it was free and easy.
Its high time ,for sanity's sake, GET RID OF ANY POLITICIAN WHO USES RACE, RELIGION or CREED to gain mileage to further his cause.
LETS THINK ANAK MALAYSIA.
ALL FOR ONE and ONE FOR ALL.
Nah am i only dreaming or hallucinating .What say you fair lady
Friend, don't you understand? The people spreading all these lies that divide us - are the ones running this land!
Joseph: "Rem, can you elaborate since when DAP or PKR has been racist?"
OK, let's start with bapa pembentukan PKR. What did Anwar say about the Kadazandusun people, back in 1990s? Kata Anwar Bapa Rasisi: "We (as in establishment) must get rid of them from politics because Kadazandusun people adalah pendokong Kristian!"
Anwar WAS THE ONLY politician that ever used such method in politics. TDM dan Ghafar Baba pun tidak pernah gunakan teknik begitu, in their attempts to regain Sabah from PBS.
You can argue, that's in the past. But come on, anjing kalau diternak dalam surau pun, bila keluar nanti, tetap mencari tahi. Kalau tidak makan pun, paling kurang ia akan cium bau tahi. Don't take this literally. This is an analogy, ok.
DAP pula. Go and search on Youtubes. Banyak ceramah DAP/PKR (i.e. the Chinese members) -- adalah tentang survival kaum Cina di Malaysia. Implicitly implying that Malaysian Chinese are deprived from this, and that. So, "we must fight", bla, bla.
Ok fine. There are some truth in those claims. But why it is ALWAYS.. ONLY about Chinese (and sometimes Indian)? The fact is, there are many other minorities in Malaysia who are discriminated even worse. Think about those native Sabahans/Sarawakians. You think we are treated any better?
But why DAP only fight for certain races only? Ceramah pun 90% dibuat dalam Bahasa Cina (yes, that is what happening in Kota Kinabalu). Apa, diorang ingat ini Republik China? Ini Malaysia la! Is this what you call Malaysia for all, all for Malaysia?
You may argue, so what's wrong with DAP memperjuangkan kaum Cina dan India yang memang tertindas daripada arus pembangunan negara? Ok, nothing is wrong. But similarly, I can also ask: so what's wrong with UMNO (politically) fighting for Malay?
Kesimpulannya: kalau UMNO/BN dianggap rasis kerana bertindak 'begitu' -- maka, DAP/PKR dan sekutu-sekutunya juga adalah rasis. You don't have to shout "hidup Melayu" or glorifying a super catchy slogan like "ketuanan Melayu" -- for you to qualify as RASIST. The Chinese DAPians and PKRians may never shout 'anything'. But they do 'everything' through action. Remember, action speaks louder!
Element of racism can come in many forms. Hanya orang buta saja tidak nampak bahawa DAP dan PKR itu juga rasis. Why do you need to give ceramah in Chinese di tengah-tengah bandar KK atau KL?
So, that is not rasist? :-)
