Repeat of 2004 election results possible, says PM
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has confidence that Malaysians can help Barisan Nasional win big in the next general election similar to the 2004 historical victory.
He also stated that the disastrous results of the March election was a blessing in disguise, adding that there was a lesson to be learnt from it all.
He suggested that if Malaysians could change their attitude and refuse to be beaten, repeating the historical 2004 general elections results was possible.
"I'm used to making history that leaders before me had not achieved.
"The 2004 general election was the best but the 2008 result was the worst which no leader before me had achieved," he said.
Together with positive thinking, he said, the implementation of objectives should also be in order to succeed.
"There are always challenges and lessons. Losing does not matter; there is a blessing behind all these.
"Don't poison our minds with ideas that kill initiatives and make us lose confidence in ourselves; think that we can do it and we will succeed," he said Saturday when addressing thousands of people from over 80 non-governmental organisations who came in droves to show support for Abdullah here.
He received a memorandum from the NGOs promising support for his leadership as well as a compact disc of a song dedicated to him sung by Jamaludin Elias better known as Nash who is also a member of the event's organising committee.
Abdullah also suggested that Malaysians upgrade their standard of living, adding that there were many opportunities to develop and progress. (how to change our lifestyles and also upgrade our standard of living???)
He believed that he could help Malaysians, particularly the Malays, adopt a change of attitude and work towards progress.
He said three or four years before former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad retired, the latter had apologised in a party meeting stating that he could make many changes but not change the attitude of his race.
"Deep down I had told myself that if I am destined to be the next leader, I would work towards that," he said.
He told the people that one had to change and want to succeed while emulating the struggles of the disabled to live. (sorry??)
Abdullah reiterated the importance of rural youngsters to remain in villages and implement agriculture projects instead of going to big cities in search of wealth but had ended up living in squatters and becoming "Mat Rempit". (So they should all become farmers? I thought there are children of farmers who went to the cities and became successful as well?)
"Lots of people have questioned why I gave importance to agriculture at a time when the world was thinking of technology but today the food issue has become serious," he said.
Abdullah ended his speech with three shouts of "Hidup Malaysia" and the people replied with "Hidup Pak Lah."

Ah, yes. In SPM, I scored A in English but failed miserably in Add. Math.

I'm speechless after reading this post. I guess the PM just wants to believe what he wants to believe. I'm sad so very sad. What will happen to Malaysia .......
ReplyDeleteThis just proves that Pak Lah is the worst prime minister in Malaysian history
ReplyDeleteMM,
ReplyDelete"The 2004 general election was the best but the 2008 result was the worst which no leader before me had achieved,"
My first impression upon the reading this famous line,"Ya Allah, malunya aku ada PM yg macamnie."
Pak Lah oh Pak Lah.. tsk tsk tsk..

Jeyklls and Hydes in Malaysia. Are you?
ReplyDeleteMalaysians in dilemma? So many events and news both real and unreal. Don’t know who to believe? Bombarded with too much spins. These are the quotes, we now hear.
“Give up”, “Fed up”, “Wait and See”, “Lost interest”, “Headache”, “Cannot believe anyone”, “Who to believe ah?”, “Niamah”, “Pening kepala”, “Pening otak”, “Sudah lah”, “Pi mampus”, “Insyallah (God Willing)” or raise your palm and fist and put them together on National tv or www.Youtube.com or www.malaysiakini.com or www.Malaysia-today.net or other blogs.
Why? Because it depends on what you want to perceive and your bias toward your own race, color, religion, party, groups, interests, superiority or plain dumbness.
That makes you something of a Jeykll and Hyde if you can’t differentiate between facts and fictions, good and evil, right and wrong, true or false. Too many Malaysians can’t decide now whether to become Jeykll or whether to become Hyde or when to become Jeykll or when to become Hyde.
Think hard and search your conscience from deep within and “Viola” you can differenciate between Night from Day. Throw out bias towards race, creed, superiority, affiliations, religion and beliefs, greed, power, cronyism etc and then see whether some of the things happening around is right or wrong , true or false, evil or good, facts or fiction.

No matter how many times he says something, he always manage to make himself sounds in denial, absurd & delusional.
ReplyDeleteDear Marina... I feel that you might be on the opposite side of Pak Lah because AAB toched a nerve when he spoke about your father? But really, I feel he has a point. It is easy to build megastructures, develop this and that, modernization whatever, but what about the core of it all - the people of Malaysia themselves? Even Tun M admitted it was indeed a diffcult task, which I know you agree with. Changing the attitudes, belief system and behavior, to direct them to positive change from within.. Even 20 years of Tun M's rule would be insuficient. But it is worth a hard try, like what Pak Lah was intend of doing. This jus might be the intangible assets that is vital to the nation's future, something that could not be seen with our own eyes.
ReplyDeleteAre our people so materialistic that thy failed to understand so, just because they cant see chane it does not happen?
Dear MM,
ReplyDeleteThe manner in which the PM belittles the youth of rural Malaysia is unacceptable and despicable, a total generalisation.
His address overall is hollow, patronizing and unintelligent. This is absolutely embarrassing!
I urge his advisors to pinch him and wake him from his slumber and get a grip on reality.
In the final analysis, the only blessing for us citizens would be if he took the proverbial hike, and took his so called dream team with him, pun intended.
sandra....
ReplyDeletethat you put it that wy puts things.... in a different perspective.... haven realy thought about it that way..... True miss marina.... it is not one easy job to mould a good malaysian being.... multiracial at that... with so much hatred we see (online at least), who's responsibility is it to take care of these... important value....? Of course one person have the difficult task 2do so...
Let AAB start, n the next PM, please follow through! We want long term beefits for our children too.... Amin!

ReplyDeleteAnd yes , 2004 is
"H I S T O R Y" ....
he got that part right.
"He suggested that if Malaysians could change their attitude and refuse to be beaten, repeating the historical 2004 general elections results was possible."
ReplyDeleteI thought Malaysian HAVE changed their attitudes hence denying BN its 2/3 majority.
Funny how its always "you/they" that needs to change and not the leadership/the party.
So it seems we Malaysians have an attitude problem. And as his speech indicates, the Malays particularly. Isn't it embarrassing and condescending to publicly mollycoddle an entire race, suggesting that the Malays are otherwise incapable of progress.
If the system has been nurturing cronyism and nepotism, its a no brainer what the ppl have come to expect.
Or is it a case of do as I say but not as I do?
In a way his leadership has change the attitude of Malaysians, not only of any single race. Apathy and fear of reprisal have been chucked aside for a demand for change.
You see....
ReplyDeleteAll this while, people are not just talking politics...
People are just so damn worried to have a such a leader.
In fact, people are in shock and wondering how on earth we ended up with the guy after 22 years having the Tun at the helm.
He is beyond ridiculous....
You see, the people are occupied about politics out of worry and frustration.
Malaysians have so many other things to worry about other than this..but from this report alone you can see that HE is the cause of most of the worries we are facing now...
So its not so ridiculous after all to keep yapping about politics right?
I read that article and my sentiment was exactly yours. 2 more years of this clueless man that cannot but spouts cliches, hackneyed statements or plain idiocies is surely one of the greatest tragedy in Malaysia in recent times.
ReplyDelete"He suggested that if Malaysians could change their attitude and refuse to be beaten, repeating the historical 2004 general elections results was possible."
ReplyDeleteSo, was it non Malaysians who voted against the BN and delivered those results?
Hey, Badawi, what cock are you talking man?
Another event hosted by so called NGOs. Are these the famous "malay NGOs" that are helmed by people from UMNO? Is Reezal Neena chap involved?
ReplyDeleteAAB tells us to learn to cope. But still spend taxpayers money on some crappy gathering.
With such statements coming from PM AAB, can we send him back to primary school?
ReplyDeleteAt least this'll give Hishamudin something to do to make up for his dismal (non)performance as Education Minister.
If you're AAB, it's for real, if you're his supporter or Sil, it's for real;, if not, it's not.
ReplyDeletePolitics, being the only known profession requiring no pre-qualification of any sort, can rarely be exepected to produce a politician other than one who is in a continuous state of denial.
I'm afraid Dr.M himself is given to such self-deceptions at times, though his positive achievements are Colossal.
As for AAB, he has said he will do the honourable thing, and unless Najib mounts a challenge in December, we have 2 more years of Rip to put up with.
It could be worse. But we had Wimbledon, and akan datang the US Open, EPL, MU & Chelsea, Olympics, Rugby, Cricket, Booker Prize etc etc and more to keep us happy. 2 years will fly in the blink of an eye!!
Gosh, I am losing a lot of friends just because of Pak Lah.
ReplyDeleteNASH was my chidhood friends in Muar, how could he betray me.
I assume he also has to cari makan and take care of his rice bowl like the others.
No further comment.
I just read his statements 3 times and I will now go to bed and laugh the daylight out of my slumbering wife.
ReplyDeleteDear Marina,
ReplyDeleteCan we call it an early stage of senility....as an incumbent PM... after 4 years...still never learn to correct canned draft speeches!
(prepared by the PM-to-be or his 4th floor boys !)
But there again we are in this great Bolehland where ANYTHING is POSSIBLE !
Cheers.
Corr version.

OMG! I bet this PM must be dreaming as he said that the 12's GE was a blessing in disguise. His unpopular moves in the economy and his stubbornness in resigning after a heavy defeat in the recent election would place him as the most unpopular PM in the history book.

ReplyDeleteJust a short note:
ReplyDelete"The 2004 general election was the best but the 2008 result was the worst which no leader before me had achieved," he said.
I dunno that the worst result can be considered as achievement??!!
I equate Pak Lah to that Junta leader in Myanmar.... So full of himself.. blind, deaf and very obvious, oblivious to what the whole nation wants!! This is crazy!
ReplyDeleteI also wonder if those so call supporters that will shout in chorus with that dumbo PM are actually paid supporters! Wahaha.. ya, like those employed to cheer and make like they are the undying fans of some film star... Hmm.. I wonder how much are these people paid!
Instead of listening to those NGOs throwing support for him, Pak Lah should make public survey whether Malaysian still like him to continue the job.

ReplyDeleteI agree with his point. We should also explore agriculture & develop the industry instead of jumping into the bandwagon in the cities. I understand to some people that material achievements are important, which the cities provide us with, but what about moral & spiritual achievement? Hereafter investment?
Imperfect as he can be, he's a human being & we all are too. I respect him as a PM & fellow Muslim nonetheless.
Just my 2 cents.
oh yeah okay..hmmmmm ah..this is what i got from what Pak Lah said...
ReplyDelete"if the other PMs are in the hall of fame...then I would be really glad to the first in hall of shame !!"
Don't be so self-righteous dear Datuk Paduka. AAB may not be the best PM in your eyes, but he is not as bad the previous one from whom he inherited a corrupt country ruled by a dictator with the help of his cronies. The previous PM in his 22 years at the held literaly destroyed everything that his predecessors had struggled to build and drained out the coffers with his mega-projects. He destroyed even UMNO and he still not happy to let things be. He wants to put at the helm of the country a person everyone knows to be good for nothing. What do you say to all that?
ReplyDeleteAbdullah statements reflect on Mahathir, sebab itu I guess you are pissed off. When one has already an opinion about somebody, one will only see all the wrong things!
ReplyDeleteBTW, isnt it possible to change our lifestyle and at the same time upgrade our standard of living?
He told the people that one had to change and want to succeed ..
ReplyDeleteyes, by the next Election, Malays will finally be free of the opium supplied by umno called NEP and yes, 2004 results will be repeated BY PAKATAN RAKYAT!
to Ketuanan Rakyat!
Well indeed that building something intangible are much harder as it takes a long time to develop and people are not necessarily that patient to wait for it.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, the tangible stuffs demand a lot of care and money.
Something we may or may not live with.
Cleffairy, sorry but I can't publish your comment because although you made many good points, you had one...um...intemperate suggestion which I can't publish because it would get me in serious trouble. I know you didn't seriously mean it but the authorities may not see it that way. If you want to rewrite it, I'll gladly publish it.
ReplyDeleteMore reason on why not to read the front covers of papers. Tum ti tum ti too...
ReplyDeleteI feel so terrible today. I marked my calendar before that DrM's birthday is today but a check with wikipedia said it was 20 Dec. I checked with this website today thinking if it is today you must have said something alas there was no mention. Only just now I managed to fire up my notebook (the only one that can access internet) and found out it was actually today. To add to my anger I cannot send anything to his blog due to "illegal operations". If I know it is today I would have taken leave to celebrate the man I admire. Oh god. Please let him know me and my whole family LOVE HIM SOOOOOO MUCH. Malaysia may not get the luck for another man like him for the next hundred years.

I just can't imagine our youth rempiting on their agriculture tractors .... fatality ....chickens & ducks and maybe an odd pakcik in their way !!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Balik Kampung rush during raya is
no more........ wow ! this guy is BRILLIANT !.
Hi MM...
ReplyDeleteOne more to add to Pak Lah's self-proclaimed "achievements" in the History of Malaysia..
Namely, FIRST PM to have a NO CONFIDENCE motion submitted in Parliament!!
Would hv had added another 1st to his list if that motion had been democratically allowed by the Speaker to be debated...
Phew!!
Sigh... Datin MM... I'm so sorry about my previous comment... I din mean to trouble you. ( I dun exactly remember wud i wrote, anyway....must be maki-ing ppl) Honestly, I find it so frustrating that the government/politicians these days are doing nothing but politicking... I am upset, and I am sure that there are many more who feels the same way.
ReplyDeleteI've been going around and these days, I not only see the poor, but also the disabled and disadvantage. Nobody is doing anything about their welfare, I am truly saddened. I wanted to help, but have nothing more to give except my voice, my writing and my effort. While everyone who is capable of helping the poor, disabled and disadvantage are doing nothing but just talk. Sigh... why can't they( everyone, government and opposition alike) just get over the recent GE and just move forward??
And the police...they're so busy fending off the demonstrators...I wonder if lost children like Sharlinie is even remembered! And what are they doing about the incresing crime rate? I don't see the crime rate going down either! It's scary to live in Malaysia sometimes! T_T
I hope he will not make history as the first PM to loose in election...
ReplyDeleteThen it will complete the cycle...
Dear Gregory,
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean he inherited a corrupt country?
How can that be, because when he inherited he immediately cancelled all the projects for the 'good of the people' right??
Then he manages to 'silent' Tun M himself - The Dictator and The Idi Amin of Malaysia ...right? Plus he did it in elegance silence without a single cent paid...right?
IF he inherited a corrupt country I am sure the dictator will still have his way....right?
so whats your take on that Gregory?
Oh yeah, one more thing.
If he inherited a corrupt country and he selflessly was trying to clean this country and getting back all the money spend by the dictator, how come the people still rejected UMNO?
Are you now going to say that the silenced dictator still have influence?? If so that means the rakyat prefer a dictator rather than a 'noble' leader like AAB?
Wow...im amazed...
Not so much in denial. I would rather think that he said those things when he was sleepstanding in between sleepwalking
ReplyDeleteAunty Marina,
ReplyDeleteHahahaha. "Abdullah reiterated the importance of rural youngsters to remain in villages and implement agriculture projects instead of going to big cities in search of wealth but had ended up living in squatters and becoming "Mat Rempit" "
What the hell, right? So what? All of us stay in the villages, bercucuk tanam while AAB and Gang tolong 'simpan' duit for us in the city? City of Angels la sangat right.
Anyway, just watched the Debat. I must say, the Malaysian Information Minister looked quite stupid in contrast to Anwar. Not that we're in support of the latter - but seriously, even if Anwar was speaking lies on TV people would have bought it. The Information Minister was just 'lost' with too much info. Seriously. Then he acted by personal attacks on Anwar, which was stupid because that's not the whole point the debate was held.
So all in all, the debate was not worthy - perhaps just adding more pages for our newspaper dramas.
You take care meanwhile.
The only serious challenger to Anwar in such as debate is Tun M.
ReplyDeleteAhmad Rubbery is rubbery in his mouth trying of all things...personal attack. Where did Pak Bodoh get the idea that Ahmad has good oratry skill. He seemed lost at one point trying to fend off Anwar's argument.
The 2004 general election was the best but the 2008 result was the worst which no leader before me had achieved," he said....heck, 2008 election results were FANTASTIC compared to 2004 man.
ReplyDeleteand for the UMNO led gov...for God's sake, you are there to serve people...that's called servanthood. You're NOT there to kiss ass and fatten yr ass, or to get involved into anything with the word ass in it.
Dear Marina,
ReplyDeleteStrange that AAB is made to sound ridiculous for his statement on "a blessing in disguise", among others.
And yet your brother gets away with saying "May 13 1969 was a blessing". Where was your lambasting post then? Don't you think that was the most seditious remark in recent history? Comment please!
Don't even get me started on all the anti-gay rhetoric your male relatives spout just for political mileage, never mind the truth of the matter.
If you continue to remain conspicuously silent in the face of vile and contemptible remarks from your family politicos, I suggest you leave off political commentary altogether; (where credibility counts a great deal).
Oh, and since I believe in credit where it's due, keep up the good work AIDS-wise. And no I don't blame you for your family's behaviour but but but..
P.S Please prove my husband wrong who insists you will neither allow nor respond to my comment.
Dear DrSS, thank you for your comment and for giving me credit for my AIDS work. At least I get credit for something :-)
ReplyDeleteAs I've always said, I speak for nobody except myself and one of the joys of having your own blog is that you can write whatever you want or not at all. Some people put their entire lives on their blogs. I don't, so it often surprises me that people think that I am everything that is on my blog and not anything more. There are some things I do not choose to do publicly and those who know me well are understanding of that.
I seem to get it both ways when it comes to political commentary. If I say nothing, I get hammered. When I do, I also get hammered. When I try and stay neutral, people say I shouldn't. So basically, I can never get it right so might as well do as I please. I do think though that people who think I have no credibility always have the choice of simply not reading me.
I hope I gave you some satisfaction in proving your husband wrong.Thank you for visiting my blog.
Dear Marina,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your gracious and mature response. Having read your musings/rantings/writings etc for years now, I actually expected no less of you.
Which is why I always wonder how you react to (nay, put up with) the latest family verbal explosion each time it hits the news.
And yes, I shall continue to visit your blog and agree or disagree with you in various ways, as I have all these years. For isn't that what the airing of one's thoughts on a blog is really for, an invitation to a free and frank exchange of ideas?
kak marina
ReplyDeletei guess pak lah is still sleeping or just refuse to accept the fact!
OMG!! Either this PM is sleeping, dreaming in bolehland or just a plain and naive GREAT PRETENDER.
ReplyDeleteAiyo.....I am speechless with Pak Lah's response....kesian kita...kesian Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteMitch
hrum what about the 'voice of people.. its worth of giving up popularity.. i wonder if pak lah as dumbest PM as we thought or pak lah is the sacrifice PM anway i like what sandra think.. The heart of malaysian people.. deep core.. the struggle of being a life.. which someday the harmony of being malaysian is gone.. somebody gotta take care of it.. somebody just mean to be hated by so much people.. even i hate him.. but i'm hoping he do something good.. or else he definitely put the shame in his self 4 evar..z
