And the others will be exclusively for men?

Waterfall site solely for women in Terengganu

HULU TERENGGANU: The state government is now in the midst of earmarking a waterfall site and gazetting it exclusively for women.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said noted that the state is blessed with abundance of natural wonder and allotting one waterfall site for women would not be a problem.

“We are still looking for the appropriate site. Only women can patronise that area, no men would be allowed.

Tourists from certain West Asian countries are also keen for us to establish an exclusive picnic site for women,” he said after touring Kenyir Lake here yesterday.

Ahmad said the state government also plans to employ only women to manage the site and female security guards.

On Kenyir Lake, he said it would be developed into a tourist hub for people from all walks of life, including senior citizens.

“The manmade lake is a majestic site and has existed for three decades. Now, we have to enhance its features to lure more tourists,” he said, noting that 72,000 visitors holidayed at the lake in the first six months of this year.

Ahmad said he had cautioned contractors to adhere to environmental parameters when working on development projects at Kenyir.

“We want these contractors to avoid felling any trees and works should strictly conform to the guidelines set by the relevant agencies,” he said.

Ahmad also announced that the state government was considering absorbing the airport tax to lure more tourists to the state.

“This system has been implemented in Taiwan and we are looking into the possibility of introducing it here,” he added.

But women can still go to the other sites if they want, right?

I like the idea of the state government absorbing the airport tax though.

  2. a silly idea for separating men and women. there will be loads of gays and lesbians then.---->aiyo.get to the good side of it lah.separation like that doesnt necessarily means sexism.it's just one of the way to prevent sexual harassment.that's the way i see it.

but then again,it's up to use any privelage given to us.if we use for good then good the outcome will be.

  3. still, isn't it some form of gender discrimination?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why can't you see that as a privileges for the ladies. If all separation means a gender discrimination then I would suggest that you guys should fight all toilets in the country should be unisex.

  5. Yes weng. it is.
This is a bit too much. What will come after this? A restaurant that separate men and women?
i don't really see the rationale in this

  6. hellow, Aunty.

Tasik Kenyir is one of the saddest tourist destinations in Malaysia. it is nothing more than a gigantic graveyard in the middle of nowhere.

those kayu that stick out above water are the top parts of some of the world’s oldest most majestic trees --- drowned deliberately by Malaysians. the bumpy boat ride around the lake is akin to one driving a golf buggy over dead bodies.

were our wild animals “evacuated” before we decided to flood their bloody home? can you imagine the slow flooding? the lucky animals drown in the early stages of flooding. the unlucky ones live to see their friends and family die while they migrate uphill, where they too await the death we intended for them. trees … hundreds of feet high, anchored to the ground, have no escape. they’re still there, standing in deep water, dead.

call me a drama queen, i don’t care. i hate Tasik Kenyir. God have mercy on the people behind that project. Amin.

  7. I dont see this as discrimination. It is not something peculiar. The same has been in practice in Japan, taiwan e.g. women only pools, bathhouse etc. I'm sure some women would welcome this idea.

Dont be too quick to criticise.

  8. Dear Marina

Whenever issues such as these crop up you can guarantee that the faithful will rush in and defend it with 'see it's happening in Tokyo and Saudi and Timbaktu. Nothing wrong what!'

As though they have done a survey to prove that it is a practice that is embraced by the majority of civilised societies.

99.99% of toilets are segragated for obvious reasons where men can just zip down, expose themselves and perform while for ladies it is not so easy. How a society progresses can be guaged by how we treat women.

Baths and spas in Japan are segegated where men and women are allowed to strip to the bare bones. Where they are not segregated, stripping is not allowed and there are separate changing rooms and shower/washing stalls.

There may be private members' spas and clubs where nothing is segregated. But, you have a clear choice whether to enter or not.

What is really happening is that the PAS Government is slowly but surely pushing a wedge under the door as part of their Syariah Laws & Practices doctrinaire policies. Testing the waters.

But everyone should see it for what it really is, i.e. Promotion of racism, polarisation and religious intolerance and the concept from the Middle East that a Female should always walk 2 steps behind her Male God.

Once you allow it by silence and indifference, then we will soon import and begin to accept Honour Killings, cutting off hands for stealing and stoning for adultery.

No, Gods natural sites such as waterfalls are there for all to see & enjoy. The more we attempt to impose one-sex only sites, the more we will see an increase in rapes and sex crimes; the result of repression. We are already seeing an alarming number of such incidents nationwide.

The more the sexes engage the more respect we will have for each other. We are mistaking and confusing adult supervision duties and inculcating proper values and respect for each other with religious zealotry.

We do so at our own peril!!

  9. Um..Donplaypuks, Terengganu isn't under PAS. Which rather makes it worse, doesn't it?

I don't actually have a problem with having women-only facilities ( although I don't buy that the reason is so that women are safe from sexual harassment...we should teach men to respect women anywhere...!) as long as the other places are not closed off to me. I usually go on holidays with my husband and children (including my son) and I want to enjoy places like waterfalls with them. I would object if I were to be restricted to only one waterfall.

  10. I really don't know what more to say about the intelligences of our Malaysian leaders. They must alway divide to rule - men from women, one race from the other, etc..etc..

A family would consist of both male and female and the whole world is also made up of men and women. We have to interact among each other within and outside our family. That's the way of life and it's so simple!

If our leader can't handle themselves decently mixing with the opposite sex of your own species, could they be trusted to handle the affairs of the country on behalf of the voters who voted them into power.

Please grow up Datuk and work on your socializing skills before you think up further great ideas. Do you seriously think that your idea would bring in tourist revenue? Don't waste tax money ok?

    from a concerned TAX Payer

  11. Yoo hoo Ms M,

Next we will have one exclusively for men. Club Med style. Guess who will be the first to sign up. The police will then be busy investigating sodomy charges.

  12. Oh Please lah..there ARE women like me who actually like the idea, of being free to enjoy ourselves without hijab and men around!

Even Australia and Italy has separate beach area and pools for ladies!!!

When talking about rights, please also respect the rights of women who are proud of their hijab and religion!!!!

As much as the liberals want mixed areas, others also want their right to privacy and to practise their deen fully and still enjoy life as Allah allows!

    KUDOS to Terengganu and Kelantan!

  13. im totally with you athea, will be loads gay and lesbian definately.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi MM,

I believe all citizens, not just ladies, would like the idea of being free to enjoy the beauty of nature publicly in a safe and secure environment.

The point here is where do we stop? Could it be just for gays next? They too need a safe environment. (I know personally for some this would be a bonanza!)

Is this being done for tourism, or is it because men in Terengganu are such beasts that the only way a public space can be secure is by eliminating the presence of men and separating families?? What's happened to our Islamic ideals where dignity of all humankind is upheld regardless of sex, creed, political ideology, disability, etc.?

If it's purely for tourism, then let's have a gay only beach as well, that would definitely draw much needed foreign currency in the country!

Btw, I saw the most beautiful caption on a billboard while driving today: "look at the person, not the disability".

    Peace and love.

  15. Do the people trying to impose this imply that men and women cannot control what is in between their pants? Talk about moving forward with first class mentality. Ignorance is certainly not a bliss.

    ReplyDelete
  16. How about a woman only buses, trains, cinema halls, karaoke joints what not next?

This is what we call aspiring for 1st world facilities with a 3rd world mentality.Segregation of gender,is this the way to move forward?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Geez...

If God wanted men separated from women, there wouldn't be Eve and Adam in the first place.

If so, there wouldn't be US.

    Nice try 'non-liberals'.

  18. What's wrong with it. Why is it that many people here upset with this suggestion. First of all, it is just one freakin waterfall (not all). Get that registered in your thick head. This is not suppose to be about family, it's suppose to be about women. In fact i think it is a discrimination againts men. But who cares what i think. Hey look, what's important to see here is you have a choice. If you dont like the idea of going to a ladies waterfall and get wet (if you know what i mean). Then don't. It like the public toilet, you have men ,women and unisex toilet. You choose which toilet to go, to wipe your ass.

  19. They seperated school boys and girls from studying together. And...there's alotsa lesbians and gay in those schools. Trust me, I've been there and was aghast to find loads of love letters from other girls my age when i was transferred there, asking me to be their gf!

They do not promote opposite sex relation but do nothing to stop homosexuality from budding?

  22. Dear Marina,

I have been watching this new MB with glee. He's like a kid that has his allowance increase a thousandfold. Watch out for more astounding spendings. Forget about the rakyat, there's money to be spent.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And... Believe me, all those analysis you guys just made..He'll say he's never heard such utter irrelevence. It's all about spending all that money. He plays in the paddling pool. What? Dive into the deep end!! Leave it to fools who don't have the money to spend, and fools like Anwar Ibrahim. Heh heh. Let's keep Terengganu's record clean...As the poorest state in Malaysia.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don't mind having a separate area for the females as long as there is an area for families. At least we can use the pool area free from 'ninja" wearing swimmers most commonly seen in hotels in Cherating/Kijal.

As for the segregation,i don't see anything wrong with that. What is there to make such into a big fuss?I am sure most of those against the idea still goes into separate toilets? So, gazetting a waterfall for our mother, sister and female cousins,Why not?

Don't tell me that you go to waterfall to gaze on semi cladded women young and old?You can get that on the internet now!

i actually don'tknow what i am talking about..harharhar..Pak Lah syndrome maybe!

  27. now this is new o.O i guess it'll be a good thing for those who want to go hijab-less while having fun. i guess it's a good thing for some, not so good for others. not a big fan of tasik kenyir anyways.

  28. You know what Marina, I kinda like the idea of having women's only park -- it's like having the concept of women's only swimming pool, women's only gym, women's only night out,etc

I mean sometimes you wanna do stuff without some men glaring their naughty smiles at you.

But maybe Terrenganu doesn't to make it 24x7 365 days. Maybe Wednesday and Sundays are women's only time (others days are Family Park or Men time if wanted). Or even limit to hours (e.g. 9am - 12pm - women's only)..
Seriously, if it's like this.. i think it's a great idea!!!

umm, what do you mean? please do not bring your homophobia into every single thing.

this women only lake is a stupid idea. more openly gays and lesbians is a good thing however.

  30. This is part of the government Islamisation programme to intice PAS to join the BN at the expense of the general population of this country.

Do we have to go to such extent to please the tourists from the "land of jahilia".

We should expose our culture to them not prostitute ourselves to their culture.

The Malays used to have a rich culture, not much left now.Now almost every Malay woman wears the tudung, some without knowing the significant of it.The joget is banned in official function and replaced by "poncho-poncho", a Western line dance given a Malay(Indonesian)name.

How I wish the Malays go back to 40 years ago when they were Malays and not Arabs.

Just for argument sake, how many ladies want to go on a picnic without their husbands, children. Perhaps one or two in a day. Do we need to spend that type of money on such silly ideas.
